Are you an experienced wastewater professional looking to take the next step into leadership? We are seeking an Assistant Manager – Utility Operations to help oversee the daily operation of a Class II Wastewater Treatment Plant serving the Bright, Indiana area.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated leader with strong mechanical aptitude, technical knowledge, and a passion for developing people while ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant wastewater operations.

What You'll Do

As the Assistant Manager, you'll work alongside the Operations Manager to oversee the daily operation of the treatment plant while supervising a team of 3–4 employees.

Leadership & Team Development

Assist with the daily supervision, scheduling, and development of plant personnel.
Lead by example while promoting a positive, safety-first work environment.
Train, mentor, and coach employees to improve performance and professional growth.
Coordinate daily work assignments to ensure operational efficiency.

Plant Operations

Assist in managing the operation of a Class II wastewater treatment facility.
Monitor treatment processes to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations.
Perform routine field inspections and evaluate system performance.
Troubleshoot operational issues and implement effective solutions.
Maintain accurate operational records and reports.

Maintenance & Asset Management

Support preventive maintenance programs for plant equipment and infrastructure.
Assist with asset inventory, condition assessments, and maintenance planning.
Help identify equipment failures and coordinate repairs.
Promote efficient use of facility assets while minimizing downtime.

Compliance & Safety

Ensure compliance with Indiana environmental regulations and company policies.
Promote workplace safety and regulatory compliance throughout the facility.
Communicate professionally with regulatory agencies, customers, contractors, and internal departments.
Participate in inspections and regulatory reporting as needed.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED

Minimum 5 years of wastewater industry experience

Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred

Strong mechanical aptitude

Working knowledge of wastewater treatment processes

Understanding of wastewater regulations and safety practices

Experience with preventive maintenance and asset management principles

Strong math, biology, and chemistry skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to diagnose problems and make sound operational decisions

Valid Indiana Driver's License

Must be eligible to work in the United States (E-Verify Employer)

Ability to successfully pass:

Background Check
Drug Screening
Pre-Employment Physical

Preferred Qualifications

Indiana Class II Wastewater License
Indiana Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Electrical troubleshooting experience
Experience supervising operations personnel
Experience with budgeting and maintenance planning
