Company: Clinique Molière — California's Largest Freestanding Birth Center & Women's Clinic

Job Type: On-call / per diem. This is not a fixed-schedule position.

Pay: $500 per-birth stipend

About Us

Clinique Molière is a 5,000 sq ft freestanding birth center and women's health clinic in Brea, offering midwifery care, prenatal and postpartum support, well-woman services, home birth, and integrative wellness including acupuncture, chiropractic, yoga, and herbal care. We are a growing practice, and we're looking for a seasoned Birth Assistant who thrives in the unpredictable rhythm of birth work.

Please Read First — The Nature of This Role

This position is on-call for births, with periodic support needs at the clinic between births. Babies come when they come. We need someone who can answer the phone at 2 a.m., be on the road within the hour, and stay through a long labor without watching the clock.

Availability and flexibility are the single most important qualifications for this role. If you cannot reliably respond to on-call pages — including nights, weekends, and holidays — this position is not the right fit, regardless of your clinical background. We say this plainly out of respect for your time and ours.

What You'll Do

On-Call Birth Support (primary)

Respond promptly to on-call pages for labor and birth, at the center and at home births
Assist midwives throughout labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period
Monitor and record maternal vital signs and fetal heart tones under midwife direction
Provide skilled, hands-on labor support to clients and their families
Assist with newborn care, initial newborn assessments, and postpartum recovery
Set up, break down, and sterilize birth rooms, tubs, instruments, and equipment
Complete accurate, timely charting

Periodic Clinic Support (as needed)

Assist with prenatal and postpartum visits during scheduled clinic hours
Cover front desk duties as needed — greeting clients, phones, scheduling, check-in/check-out
Restock supplies, maintain sterilization, and support general clinic readiness

Expanded Clinical Scope

Administer subcutaneous (SQ) and intramuscular (IM) medications under Nurse-midwife supervision
Prior injection experience preferred; training and competency sign-off provided

What We're Looking For

3+ years of hands-on birth support experience — birth center, home birth practice, or L&D
Proven, reliable on-call availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Current BLS/CPR certification; NRP required or willing to obtain immediately
Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to home births in the surrounding area
Comfortable with the physical realities of birth — blood, bodily fluids, long and unpredictable hours
Calm, clinically sound, and dependable under pressure
Excellent communication and charting habits
Team player willing to wear multiple hats in a growing practice

Preferred

CNA, medical assistant, EMT, student midwife, or nursing background
Prior experience administering SQ/IM medications
Home birth experience specifically
Front desk or medical reception experience
Bilingual (Spanish or other languages)
