Full Job Description

Direct Support Professional I (DSP I)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Employment Type: Full-Time (35 hours/week)
Location: Community Based Programs: Danville or Pleasant Hill

Work Location & Assignment

We are looking to hire for our Community Based Programs: Danville and Pleasant Hill locations. Our community-based programs take place out in the community rather than in a facility or program building; staff meet participants at a designated meeting point and support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the day as they follow a structured schedule and participate in community-based activities.

This position may be assigned to any RES Success program location within Contra Costa County.

Work location, program assignment, and schedule are determined at the sole discretion of RES Success based on operational needs. While candidate preference may be considered, RES Success reserves the right to assign, reassign, or transfer employees to meet business and participant needs.

Compensation

$23.00 – $25.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
This is a non-exempt position eligible for overtime in accordance with California law.

Position Summary

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) works as part of a collaborative team supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in achieving their personal goals and living meaningful lives in their communities.

Supports vary based on individual needs and may include skill development, community access, relationship-building, employment support, personal care assistance, and documentation of progress.

DSPs are responsible for honoring individuals’ rights, promoting self-advocacy, and providing supports in accordance with each person’s preferences and individualized service plans.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Supporting people in working towards their desired life goals.
Empowering people and helping them to create lives that are full of joy and meaning.
Reading and reviewing people’s Individualized support documents to ensure the way supports are provided match people’s needs, desires and preferences.
Completing daily notes and semi-annual reports to document people’s progress, achievements and/or barriers in working towards their personalized objectives.
Thinking of creative and novel ideas for individual and group program activities that reflect the interests of people attending the program.
Supporting people with traveling and accessing resources in their communities (e.g. walking, using public transportation and/or RES vehicles to visit community spaces).
Assisting people with personal care as needed and/or when requested, including eating, dressing, and visiting the restroom.
Accompanying people to volunteer sites and supporting them in learning how to complete assigned tasks and how to demonstrate professional conduct.
Supporting people in building and maintaining relationships and being part of communities of their choosing.
Immediately communicating injuries, injurious behaviors, serious threats, or suspected neglect or abuse to a supervisor when observed.
Writing special incident reports to document injuries, unsafe actions, suspected abuse, and other noteworthy incidents, when applicable.
Completing all assigned trainings, including two-day Pro-ACT, a 90-day Onboarding training, Person-Centered Thinking, Special Incident Report training, First-Aid/CPR, and other continuing education modules.
Participating in team meetings, team discussions and team events.
Participating in Planning Events, when invited by the planner, and in the capacity the planner requests.
Responsible for completing any and all other projects or administrative duties as assigned by a Program Manager, Assistant Manager, Support Coordinator or Director.

Possible Additional Duties

Driving individuals to community activities using an RES vehicle
Transporting individuals to and from home (location-specific)

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent
Must be at least 18 years of age (per licensing regulations)

Other Requirements

Valid California Driver’s License (if assigned driving duties)
Successful completion of background checks in accordance with California’s Fair Chance Act and applicable licensing regulations
Ability to pass required health screenings (as permitted by law)
Demonstrated respect for diverse cultures, identities, and lived experiences

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform essential job functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made in accordance with the ADA and California law.

The role may require:

Walking, standing, and climbing stairs regularly
Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or reaching
Safely lifting or moving up to 25 pounds
Visual abilities including close and distance vision

Work Schedule

Schedule may vary depending on program needs.

Monday through Friday

8:30 AM to 3:30 PM or 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (depending on location)
