About Triple S Metals

Triple S Metals is a growing scrap metal recycling and processing company serving customers throughout Northern California. We handle ferrous and non-ferrous metals and are focused on safety, accuracy, customer service, and operational efficiency.

We are looking for a hands-on Yard Operations Supervisor / Manager Trainee with strong scrap metal experience. This role is ideal for someone who already understands scrap yard operations and have solid scrap metals processing knowledge.

Position Summary

The Yard Operations Supervisor / Manager Trainee will support daily yard and warehouse operations, including receiving, sorting, grading, processing, staging, loading, shipping, and inventory movement.

This role will begin with strong focus on daily execution and team supervision. Over time, the right candidate will be trained in labor planning, KPI tracking, inventory control, ERP usage, process improvement, and broader operations management responsibilities.

The ideal candidate has solid scrap metal knowledge, understands yard flow, can lead employees on the floor, and is willing to grow into a larger leadership role.

Key ResponsibilitiesDaily Yard & Warehouse Operations

Supervise daily yard and warehouse activities.
Assign work to yard and warehouse employees.
Monitor employee productivity and work completion throughout the day.
Coordinate receiving, sorting, staging, processing, loading, and shipping activities.
Help ensure outbound shipments are accurate and completed on schedule.
Support customer drop-offs, inbound trucks, outbound trucks, and container loading.
Maintain organized material flow throughout the yard.

Scrap Metal Knowledge

Identify and separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Support proper material grading, sorting, staging, and storage.
Help ensure materials are processed according to company standards.
Work with scale, purchasing, shipping, and office teams to confirm material movement.
Communicate material issues, contamination, mis-sorts, or quality concerns to management.

Team Supervision

Lead by example on the floor.
Communicate daily work priorities clearly to employees.
Ensure employees stay on task and follow assigned work plans.
Help train employees on proper sorting, safety, equipment use, and yard procedures.
Report attendance, performance, safety, and productivity concerns to management.
Support a work culture based on accountability, safety, and teamwork.

Safety & Equipment

Promote safe yard and warehouse practices.
Monitor PPE usage and safe equipment operation.
Support safe forklift, loader, excavator, and material handling activity.
Report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, and maintenance needs.
Help keep yard and warehouse areas clean, organized, and safe.

Growth & Training Path

Over the first 1–2 years, the right candidate will be trained to take on more management-level responsibilities, including:

Daily labor planning
KPI tracking
Inventory accuracy
ERP/inventory system usage
Scheduling and workload planning
Team performance management
Process improvement
SOP development
Cross-department communication
Cost control and productivity improvement

Required Qualifications

4+ years of scrap metal, recycling, yard, warehouse, or heavy industrial operations experience.
Strong knowledge of scrap metal materials, sorting, grading, and yard operations.
Prior experience leading or training employees preferred.
Comfortable working in an outdoor industrial environment.
Strong communication and follow-through.
Ability to keep employees focused and work moving throughout the day.
Basic computer skills.
Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

8+ years of scrap metal recycling experience.
Experience with both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Experience loading trucks, containers, or trailers.
Forklift, loader, or excavator experience.
ERP or inventory system experience.
Previous lead, assistant supervisor, or supervisor experience.
Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Mandarin is a plus.
