Full Job Description

Job Summary
Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Perioperative Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN), where your expertise will directly impact the safety, comfort, and well-being of our youngest patients. In this vital role, you will provide specialized nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures for children across various surgical specialties. Your energetic approach and compassionate nature will ensure a positive perioperative experience, supporting both patients and their families through every step of their surgical journey. This position offers an exciting opportunity to utilize your diverse clinical skills in a fast-paced, collaborative environment dedicated to pediatric excellence.

Responsibilities

Prepare pediatric patients for surgery by conducting thorough assessments, including vital signs, medical history review, and physiological evaluations.
Administer medications, including anesthesia adjuncts and sedation, following strict aseptic techniques and hospital protocols.
Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists during operative procedures within the operating room (OR), ensuring sterile field maintenance and proper instrument handling.
Monitor patients’ vital signs and physiological responses continuously during surgery using advanced EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
Manage postoperative care by assessing recovery status, managing pain with acute pain management protocols, and providing family education on postoperative care plans.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including anesthesiology to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
Document all nursing interventions accurately in medical records while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
Support special procedures such as IV infusion therapy when necessary.
Demonstrate proficiency in pediatric physiology knowledge, airway management, and working with children with developmental disabilities or complex medical needs.

Skills

Proven experience in pediatric perioperative nursing within ambulatory surgery centers.
Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, infection control practices, and sterile processing procedures.
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for accurate documentation and patient tracking.
Ability to perform advanced patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations.
Skilled in medication administration including injections, IV insertion, venipuncture, and medication reconciliation processes.
Experience working with children requiring specialized care.
Competence in managing acute pain using established protocols.
Capable of working effectively in high-pressure situations such as emergency room or ICU settings involving pediatric patients.
