About Vizyon Design Group
Vizyon Design Group is a pre-construction design and master planning firm serving high-end residential clients on complex properties throughout Western Pennsylvania and the surrounding region.
Our discipline is the front end of a project, the phase in which decisions still exist on paper and still cost nothing to change. Through reality capture,6D planning, and photorealistic visualization, we resolve questions of feasibility, constructability, drainage, phasing, and sequencing before a contract is executed or a single product is ordered. The principle underlying the entire firm is a simple one: every problem is cheaper on paper.
We operate in close partnership with a licensed luxury construction company, which allows our work to be measured against the standard that matters most, whether what was designed can be built, and whether it was built as designed.
Why We Are Building an Interior Division
This is a new division, and we want candidates to understand precisely why it exists before they apply.
Approximately one quarter of the projects completed by our construction partner last year carried interior scope: bathrooms, basement build-outs, additions, and finished structures. That work was delivered without a dedicated interior capability. The demand is already present. The capability is not. This position exists to close that gap.
The division will develop in deliberate stages. It begins by assuming ownership of client-facing material selections on active exterior projects and establishing the vendor infrastructure to support them. It extends into furnishings, decor, outdoor living product and standalone interior design projects.
This is a ground-floor leadership opportunity inside an established, operating business not a speculative launch. The demand has been demonstrated. The infrastructure, the production staff, and the client pipeline already exist. What the division requires is someone to lead it.
The Role
This is a design leadership position. It is not a production position.
You will hold creative authority over our interior work: the concept, the palette, the materials, the finishes, and the narrative you present to the client. You will define the standard by which interiors are delivered under our name, and you will be the person in the room defending that standard.
You will additionally hold company-wide authority over furniture, fixtures, and equipment on every project we undertake, exterior work included. You will own our vendor and trade partner relationships outright, who we buy from, on what terms, and to what standard. And you will be the person who instructs contractors on how a interior design is to be executed, ensuring that intent survives the transition from documentation to installation.
Drafting, modeling, documentation, and administrative production are supported by existing staff. Your time is reserved for design decisions, client relationships, vendor development, and quality control - not for the execution of the tasks that support them.
We operate on a defined process with defined standards. You will hold substantial creative authority within that structure. We are seeking someone who finds that arrangement freeing rather than limiting.
Core Responsibilities
Creative direction and client leadership
- Establish the design concept, material direction, and finish standard for all interior projects
- Develop and present concept packages, mood boards, and selection presentations directly to clients
- Lead client selection meetings from initial presentation through final approval
- Hold both the design intent and the budget through revision cycles and client pressure
- Author and maintain the interior design standards governing the division
FF&E authority
- Serve as the final authority on all furniture, fixture, and equipment specifications across every project, interior and exterior alike
- Advise and support the creative team on material and finish selections for exterior projects, and carry those selections through client approval
- Own specification accuracy, selection consistency, and the integrity of every FF&E package leaving this office
Vendor and trade partner development
- Establish, own, and maintain direct relationships with vendors, manufacturers, showrooms, and trade partners
- Vet and qualify prospective vendors against defined criteria - product quality, pricing and terms, lead time reliability, warranty support, and service performance- before any account is opened
- Negotiate and administer trade accounts and terms
- Serve as the single point of accountability for vendor performance, and remove vendors who fail to meet standard
Contractor direction and design translation
- Instruct contractors and trades on design intent and the manner in which it is to be executed
- Conduct site walks and installation reviews; identify and correct deviations before they become finished work
- Establish documentation standards that render the design unambiguous in the field
- Act as the design authority when field conditions require a change, and document the resolution
Production oversight
- Direct the production of drawings, schedules, specification packages, and presentation materials produced by supporting staff
- Read, review, and redline construction documents - you establish the standard; you do not draft to it
- Direct 3D visualization work: set the direction, evaluate the output, approve the result
- Supervise procurement tracking, lead times, and order status, escalating issues before they reach the client
- Enforce accuracy and completeness on every deliverable before it is released
Qualifications
Required
- A portfolio demonstrating a clear and identifiable design point of view. This is our primary evaluation criterion.
- Five to eight or more years in residential interior design, including substantive high-end or luxury experience
- Demonstrated experience presenting to clients and carrying projects through selection and approval
- Direct experience coordinating with contractors and trades on active construction projects
- Fluency in reading and interpreting construction documents and shop drawings
- Working command of 3D visualization platforms sufficient to direct the work and evaluate output with authority
- Demonstrated experience specifying FF&E and managing procurement through delivery and installation
- Established professional relationships with vendors, showrooms, or trade partners
- Exceptional organization, and the willingness to be the person who makes the decision
Preferred
- Formal education in interior design
- NCIDQ certification
- Experience establishing or launching a design service line
- Experience negotiating trade accounts and vendor terms
What This Role Is Not
This is not a drafting position, nor a modeling or rendering position. You will not spend your days in production software.
Nor is this a position in which you build an independent studio inside our company. Our process, workflow, and operating standards are established and will remain so. Your authority is over the design, the concept, the selections, the materials, the vendors, and the client experience. The manner in which work moves through this company is ours.
If you are seeking to lead design with production support behind you and real ownership of a division you can grow, this will suit you well.
