Primary Position / Tasks Include
- One or more years of receptionist or front-desk experience in a medical or optometric practice preferred; willing to train the right candidate. Provide exceptional patient service during every encounter—whether in person or via phone.
- Manage check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, and daily patient flow. Verify insurance benefits, collect copays, and communicate financial expectations clearly.
- Proficient with computer use, including scanning, importing/exporting documents, email, Microsoft Word, and comfort using electronic medical records/scheduling systems. Exhibit a friendly, positive, and courteous manner at all times.
- Hardworking, reliable, and flexible, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Collaborative attitude and ability to work well with clinical and administrative staff.
- Attention to detail, including accurate data entry, correct spelling, and proper documentation. Strong organizational skills to maintain an efficient front desk and smooth patient flow.
Qualifications
- Provides excellent patient care and demonstrates an energetic, empathetic approach. Must comply with HIPAA confidentiality standards when communicating patient information.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate with all levels of employees in a courteous, professional manner. Ability to track patient flow, anticipate needs, and support overall office efficiency.
- Desire to gain industry knowledge and grow within the practice. Demonstrates initiative in accomplishing practice goals.
- Ability to adapt, accept change, and maintain a positive work environment. Flexibility in scheduling to meet business needs, including weekends when applicable.
Education and / or Experience
- Minimum Required: High school diploma or GED.
- Preferred: One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Systems and Technology
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
- Strong computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications.
Physical Requirements
This role requires a variety of physical activities to effectively perform essential job functions. The position involves frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%), with regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%). Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs. Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands are essential, as the role demands constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology. Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus—is required 100% of the time. Occasional driving or climbing may also be necessary.
