We also provide housing and services to families experiencing homelessness across New York City.Each night, URI supports nearly 4,000 individuals by offering safe shelter, essential services, and pathways toward long-term stability. Our work is rooted in trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and culturally responsive care.

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Residential Specialist to support families with children residing in our DHS shelters. In this role, you will provide direct care, assist with daily living needs, and help create a safe, supportive environment for residents.

This is an ideal role for someone who is flexible, empathetic, and passionate about helping individuals experiencing homelessness.

Key Responsibilities

Provide direct support to residents in daily living activities
Assist families in developing and reaching personal goals
Maintain accurate logs, reports, and documentation
Respond to resident needs and help resolve conflicts
Support a safe, clean, and structured living environment
Assist with intake, room checks, and bed preparation
Distribute supplies and organize donations
Provide childcare support when needed
Escort/transport residents to appointments as needed
Follow emergency and safety procedures
Attend team meetings and trainings

Qualifications

High School Diploma required
At least 1 year of experience in a residential or shelter setting preferred
Experience working with vulnerable populations is a plus
Familiarity with DHS systems (preferred)

Overview

Responsibilities

Supervise residential, security, and maintenance staff during assigned shift
