Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Prior Authorization Specialist to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing insurance prior authorization requests to ensure timely approval for patient treatments and procedures. Your expertise will help streamline the approval process, facilitate effective communication with insurance providers, and support our commitment to delivering exceptional patient care. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where your knowledge of health insurance policies, medical coding, and electronic health records (EHR) management will make a meaningful impact.

Responsibilities

Review and process insurance prior authorization requests accurately and efficiently, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to gather required clinical information, medical records, and supporting documentation for authorization submissions.
Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility using insurance portals and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Maintain detailed records of all authorization requests, correspondence, and outcomes in compliance with clinical confidentiality policies and HIPAA regulations.
Communicate proactively with insurance companies to follow up on pending authorizations and resolve any issues or denials promptly.
Utilize medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 codes, and medical billing knowledge to support accurate submissions.
Stay current on health insurance policies, managed care guidelines, and industry regulations to ensure compliance and optimize approval rates.

Requirements

Proven experience in medical office settings or healthcare environments with familiarity in insurance prior authorization processes.
Strong knowledge of health insurance policies, managed care plans, and clinical confidentiality policies such as HIPAA.
Proficiency in medical coding including CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding, and medical terminology.
Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems and EMR/EHR management tools.
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with providers, patients, and insurance representatives.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting purposes.
Knowledge of medical billing procedures, insurance verification processes, and health insurance policy guidelines.
