Eye Care Specialists (ECS) is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician Assistant to join our clinical team. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working directly with patients, has an interest in ophthalmology, and wants to develop specialized clinical skills in a fast-paced ophthalmology practice.
The Ophthalmic Technician Assistant plays an important role in supporting our physicians and ophthalmic technicians by performing diagnostic testing, assisting with injection preparation and room setup, and helping maintain an efficient patient flow.
What You'll Do:
Diagnostic Testing
- Perform high-quality OCT testing
- Perform visual field testing
- Obtain accurate and repeatable diagnostic images and measurements
- Explain testing procedures to patients and ensure they are comfortable and properly positioned
- Recognize technical issues or poor-quality testing and appropriately repeat or escalate concerns
- Maintain proficiency with assigned diagnostic equipment
- Follow established protocols for testing, cleaning, and equipment use
Injection Support
- Prepare and maintain injection rooms and supplies
- Set up rooms and necessary materials prior to injection procedures
- Assist with patient flow before and after injections
- Maintain appropriate room turnover and infection-control practices
- Monitor and maintain injection-related supplies
- Notify appropriate clinical staff when supplies need to be replenished or workflow concerns arise
Patient & Clinical Support
- Escort patients through the clinical workflow as assigned
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with patients
- Provide clear instructions for diagnostic testing
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
- Work collaboratively with ophthalmic technicians, physicians, and other clinical team members
- Assist with room turnover and maintaining a clean, organized clinical environment
- Follow ECS clinical, safety, HIPAA, and infection-control policies

What We're Looking For
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with patients of varying ages and needs
- Ability to learn and follow clinical protocols
- Dependable, organized, and able to work as part of a team
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
Preferred
- Previous ophthalmology, optometry, healthcare, or clinical experience
- Experience with OCT or visual field testing
- Ophthalmic technician experience
- Experience working with diagnostic equipment
- COA or other ophthalmic certification
- Experience assisting with ophthalmic procedures
Ophthalmology experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate. We are willing to train motivated individuals who demonstrate strong patient-service skills, attention to detail, and a desire to grow.
