Full Job Description

Our established CPA firm in Brookings, South Dakota, is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Support Specialist to join our team.

This role is tailored for an ambitious individual who has recently graduated or is currently completing their final year of an Accounting degree (such as at SDSU) and is actively planning to pursue their CPA certification in the near future. This position offers a direct runway to transition into an Associate CPA role within our firm upon graduation and certification.

The Opportunity

You will join a collaborative, mentoring environment that includes experienced CPAs and support staff. This role provides deep, hands-on experience in public accounting and tax work, making it the ideal stepping stone for a dedicated student or recent graduate looking to launch a long-term professional career.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in preparing individual and business tax returns under direct CPA guidance.
Perform bookkeeping tasks, including financial reconciliations and client data entry.
Support payroll processing and tax compliance tasks.
Communicate directly with clients to gather necessary financial documentation.
Provide general administrative and accounting support to the team as needed.

Qualifications

Education: Currently in the final year of, or recently graduated with, a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting.
CPA Track: A clear intent and plan to sit for the CPA exam and achieve certification in the near future.
Skills: Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, and a foundational understanding of core accounting, bookkeeping, or tax principles.

Work & Compensation

Schedule: Full-time, in-person position at our Brookings office. (We are willing to offer flexible hours around a class schedule for the right final-year student candidate).
Compensation: Competitive compensation, based on experience/education level.
Growth: Hands-on training, direct mentorship from experienced CPAs, and a defined path for rapid career growth within the firm.
