The Assistant General Manager (AGM) is responsible for overseeing daily operations at Spirals, ensuring smooth coordination between the front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH). This role combines hands-on leadership with operational management, ensuring that every guest experience reflects our commitment to quality, speed, and hospitality. The AGM works closely with the Owner, Head Chef, and FOH to deliver strong financial performance, maintain compliance with NYC DOH regulations, and foster a positive team culture.

Expectations and Responsibilities:

Operations & Compliance

Oversee daily FOH bakery operations to ensure efficiency, cleanliness, and consistency.
Enforce compliance with NYC DOH regulations (logs, permits, maintenance, cleaning schedules).
Maintain inventory systems and par levels. Collaborate with the owner on inventory control, vendor communications, and order placement.
Ensure that each guest receives personalized, attentive service aligned with Spirals’ standards.
Proactively handle and resolve customer concerns, maintaining loyalty and trust.
Jump in as needed—packing rolls, running register, assisting with rushes.
Assist in hiring, onboarding, training, and mentoring new team members.
Cultivate a culture of attentiveness, kindness, and accountability.
Provide real-time coaching and encouragement to staff, reinforcing a collaborative and high-performing team dynamic.
Ensure the bakery opens and closes smoothly, with daily checklists completed to the highest standard.
Create FOH schedule, handle break management, manage shift coverage, and be on-call for uncovered shifts.
Support the completion of End-of-Day reports.
Brand Representation & Product Knowledge.
Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate service/maintenance.

Qualifications

2+ years of experience in a bakery, café, or fast-casual food environment, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or team lead role.
Strong knowledge of NYC DOH standards and food safety compliance.
Proven ability to manage staff, schedules, and daily operations in a fast-paced setting.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
Ability to work full-time Wednesday-Sunday, mornings, and holidays.
NYC Food Handler Certification a plus. If not already acquired, must be obtained within one month of hire.
Ability to be flexible with job demands and open-minded when being asked to complete tasks.
Ability to move or handle equipment throughout the bakery and up and down stairs generally weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand for up to 8-10 hours a day.
