Head Teacher (FOR CHILDREN OF AGE 2-5 y.o.)

The opportunity

Kings Bay Y/ JCC Brooklyn is a community space that connects, uplifts and inspires. It is a Jewish Community Center with and without walls. Students are engaged in activities that are both relevant and of great interest to them, including art, literacy, dance, and music. They will use their five senses to explore the world around them and be exposed to a variety of different learning materials.

We welcome everyone from all religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds as we provide a wide array of programs for children and families to explore Jewish culture, values, holidays, and Israel through music, storytelling, art, Hebrew, and food. We offer early childhood programs, summer day camps, after-school and other fun and engaging programs for families

The Head Teacher is responsible for the education and care of the children and for developing curriculum, activities, and routines in a manner appropriate to the age of the children and contributing to the effective operation of the overall program. The head teacher reports to the director. The head teacher’s responsibilities include but are not limited to, the following description.

Main Responsibilities:

Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum that supports the cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and language development of children ages 2-5.
Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes positive behavior and a love of learning.
Observe, assess, and document children's developmental progress and use assessment data to inform instruction and communicate with families.
Build strong partnerships with families through regular communication, parent conferences, and collaboration to support each child's growth.
Supervise, mentor, and collaborate with assistant teachers, classroom aides, student teachers, and related service providers to ensure high-quality classroom instruction.
Prepare and maintain lesson plans, attendance, child records, and all required classroom documentation in compliance with Department of Health, DOE, and program requirements.
Support children with diverse learning needs by collaborating with families and specialists to implement individualized strategies and promote inclusion.
Maintain a classroom environment that complies with all health, safety, licensing, and program regulations.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, school events, and other program activities as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field (Required)
New York State teaching certification in Early Childhood or currently working toward certification, including recent graduates (required)
Knowledge of child development, developmentally appropriate practices, and play-based curriculum.
Experience supporting diverse learners, including children with IEPs and multilingual learners.
Experience with Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD, and DOE quality standards (e.g., CLASS, ECERS).
Strong leadership, classroom management, communication, organizational, and family engagement skills.
Ability to organize and plan, both independently and cooperatively with others
Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
Minimum of two (2) years of lead teaching experience in an early childhood classroom; DOE-funded 3-K or Pre-K experience preferred.

Schedule

Full-time position: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM with 30-minute break

Salary

Salary: $61,070 to $68,652 for a 10 month contract, based on education and certification status.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
