About Forma

Forma is a luxury millwork production and installation company serving high-end retail, residential, and hospitality clients across the U.S. and internationally. We specialize in precision-crafted custom interiors where design intent and flawless execution are non-negotiable. Our team operates at the intersection of craftsmanship and logistics, delivering complex installations in some of the most demanding environments in the industry.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for luxury millwork production, installation, and logistics projects. Working closely with our sales, design, and project management teams, you will analyze bid documents, specifications, and drawings to develop detailed proposals that reflect Forma’s standards for quality and craftsmanship.

This role requires deep knowledge of custom millwork materials, fabrication processes, trade labor, and the logistical complexities of luxury retail, residential, and hospitality installations.

What You’ll Do

Review and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and bid packages to build comprehensive cost estimates for custom millwork production and installation.
Prepare detailed material takeoffs and quantity surveys for materials, hardware, finishes, and specialty components.
Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate bids from subcontractors, trade vendors, and suppliers; identify partners aligned with Forma’s quality standards.
Develop complete logistics and installation bids — covering labor, rigging, site preparation, travel, per diem, freight, crating, and delivery coordination for domestic and international projects.
Assess site conditions, access constraints, and installation complexity, including work performed during nights, weekends, or within occupied luxury retail and hospitality environments.
Collaborate with Project Managers, the production team, and sales to refine scope, clarify assumptions, and keep estimates current with material costs and lead times.
Maintain and update an internal cost database (unit costs, labor rates, vendor pricing, historical project data).
Prepare and present formal bid proposals and cost breakdowns to clients, architects, interior designers, and general contractors.
Identify value engineering opportunities without compromising design intent or quality.
Track awarded and lost bids to improve future estimating accuracy.
Support contract review by flagging scope gaps, exclusions, and risk items prior to execution.

What You Bring

3–5+ years of estimating experience in custom millwork, architectural woodwork, high-end furniture, or finish carpentry; luxury commercial or hospitality experience strongly preferred.
Strong working knowledge of luxury millwork materials, joinery methods, hardware systems, and specialty finishes including veneer, solid wood, lacquer, glass, metal inlay, and stone integration.
Ability to read and interpret complex architectural and shop drawings, furniture specifications, and finish schedules.
Proficiency in estimating and takeoff software; Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar platforms preferred.
Advanced Excel skills for cost modeling and bid analysis.
Solid understanding of logistics costs for national and international project delivery — crating, freight, customs, and union labor.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent bids under deadline pressure with precision and professionalism.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal collaboration and client-facing proposals.
Familiarity with contract structures, trade subcontracting, and GC bid processes.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience considered.
Familiarity with AWI (Architectural Woodwork Institute) quality standards is a plus.
Multilingual abilities (Italian and/or Spanish) are an advantage, though not required.

Schedule and Physical Requirements

Periodic site visits requiring walking, climbing, and bending.
Occasional domestic and international travel to job sites.
Flexibility to work outside standard hours to meet bid deadlines or support international client time zones.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $85,000 – $115,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a good faith salary range provided in compliance with New York City’s Pay Transparency Law.
