Gansevoort Meatpacking is seeking experienced, polished, and hospitality-driven Servers to join our Food & Beverage team.
The ideal candidate is passionate about hospitality, knowledgeable about food and beverage, and able to deliver attentive, personalized service in a fast-paced environment. Our Servers are responsible for creating memorable guest experiences through genuine hospitality, strong menu knowledge, attention to detail, and seamless coordination with the entire Food & Beverage team.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and engage guests with warm, professional, and genuine hospitality.
- Provide attentive and personalized service throughout the entire guest experience.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of food menus, ingredients, preparation methods, allergens, cocktails, spirits, wine, beer, and other beverage offerings.
- Explain menu items and provide thoughtful food and beverage recommendations based on guest preferences.
- Accurately take and enter food and beverage orders into the POS system.
- Confirm dietary restrictions and allergies and communicate them clearly to culinary and management teams in accordance with established procedures.
- Deliver beverages and food items accurately, promptly, and according to established service standards.
- Monitor guest satisfaction throughout the dining experience and respond promptly to requests.
- Anticipate guest needs and proactively provide assistance before being asked.
- Follow proper steps of service, table maintenance, and timing standards.
- Coordinate closely with Hosts, Bussers, Food Runners, Bartenders, Barbacks, Culinary teams, and management to ensure seamless service.
- Maintain awareness of table status, course timing, guest preferences, and special requests.
- Recognize VIPs, repeat guests, and special occasions and communicate relevant information to the appropriate team members.
- Resolve minor guest concerns professionally and promptly, involving management when necessary.
- Follow service recovery procedures and ensure appropriate follow-up on guest concerns.
- Present guest checks accurately and process cash, credit card, room charge, and other approved forms of payment in accordance with company procedures.
- Follow all cash handling, credit card processing, adjustment, void, comp, and accounting procedures.
- Promote and upsell menu items, premium beverages, wine, specials, and other offerings when appropriate.
- Assist with opening, closing, and side work duties.
- Set, clear, clean, and reset tables and service areas as needed.
- Maintain clean, organized, fully stocked, and presentation-ready service stations.
- Assist with polishing and organizing glassware, silverware, and other service equipment.
- Support restaurant, rooftop, pool, private event, and special event operations as assigned based on business needs.
- Participate in pre-shift meetings, department meetings, training sessions, menu tastings, and other mandatory meetings as scheduled.
- Maintain professional appearance and grooming standards at all times.
- Follow all company policies, NYC Department of Health requirements, responsible alcohol service requirements, safety procedures, and sanitation standards.
- Perform other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned by management to support business and operational needs.
Qualifications
- Previous serving experience in a high-volume restaurant, hotel, rooftop, nightlife, fine dining, or luxury hospitality environment preferred.
- Strong food and beverage knowledge.
- Knowledge of cocktails, spirits, wine, and beer.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and guest-focused under pressure.
- Strong sales and upselling skills.
- Ability to accurately operate a POS system and process guest payments.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Responsible, dependable, and trustworthy.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- NYC Food Protection Certificate and responsible alcohol service certification preferred.
Schedule Requirements
Candidates must have flexible availability and be able to work schedules based on business and operational needs, including days, evenings, late nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.
Team Members may be scheduled across different Food & Beverage outlets, including restaurant, rooftop, pool, and private event operations, based on business needs.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move items weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to safely carry trays, plates, glassware, and other service items.
- Ability to bend, reach, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, and perform repetitive physical movements.
- Ability to move quickly and safely throughout restaurant, rooftop, pool, kitchen, bar, storage, and event areas.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy, crowded, and occasionally outdoor environment.
Attendance & Reliability
Dependable attendance is an essential function of this position. Team Members are expected to report to work on time, in proper uniform, fully prepared for duty, and ready to begin work at the scheduled start time. Team Members must promptly notify management in accordance with company policy if they will be late, absent, or otherwise unable to work as scheduled.
