Registered Nurse – Ambulatory Infusion Therapy Unit

Location: Brooklyn, New York 11212
Department: Ambulatory Infusion Therapy Unit
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Hours: 40 Hours per Week

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Ambulatory Infusion Therapy Unit utilizes the nursing process to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to adult and pediatric patients receiving infusion therapies. The RN is responsible and accountable for assessing patient needs, planning and coordinating care, administering therapies including blood and chemotherapy transfusions, evaluating patient outcomes, and ensuring adherence to established nursing standards and hospital policies.

The RN serves as a clinical leader, supervising and coordinating care provided by nursing support staff while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, effective, and high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Assessment & Care Planning

Assess immediate and ongoing patient care needs, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and spiritual requirements.
Develop, implement, and update individualized plans of care.
Establish nursing priorities in collaboration with physicians and multidisciplinary team members.
Incorporate age-specific considerations into patient care plans for adult and pediatric populations.

Direct Patient Care

Provide direct nursing care based on patient assessments and prescribed medical treatment plans.
Administer infusion therapies, blood products, chemotherapy, and related treatments according to established protocols.
Monitor patients for therapeutic effectiveness and adverse reactions.
Ensure timely reassessment of patient conditions and responses to treatment.

Coordination & Communication

Coordinate patient care activities to ensure continuity and consistency with the medical treatment plan.
Communicate patient status, changes in condition, and treatment responses to appropriate healthcare team members.
Document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes accurately within the electronic medical record (EMR).

Clinical Leadership & Supervision

Supervise and oversee care provided by Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Registered Nurses on Permit (RNPs), Nursing Attendants, Technicians, and supplemental staff.
Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing staff and student nurses.
Assume charge nurse responsibilities as delegated by nursing leadership.

Quality Improvement & Professional Development

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and nursing performance improvement activities.
Support the development and implementation of nursing standards and best practices.
Attend staff meetings, educational programs, committees, and professional development activities.
Participate in research projects and pilot programs sponsored by the Nursing Department.
Maintain professional competency through continuing education and certification programs.

Additional Responsibilities

Assist with orientation and training of new nursing staff.
Support staffing needs by assisting colleagues and working on other units when required.
Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff.
Participate in professional nursing and community organizations.

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.

Experience

Minimum two (2) years of recent Medical-Surgical Nursing experience.
Minimum two (2) years of Chemotherapy Administration experience.
Experience with blood transfusions and infusion therapies.

Licensure & Certifications

Active New York State Registered Nurse License.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification.

Required Skills

Demonstrated competency in administering blood products and chemotherapy infusions to adult and pediatric patients.
Strong knowledge of infusion therapy protocols and patient monitoring.
Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and healthcare technology.
Excellent clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and patient education abilities.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Certifications

Oncology Certified Nurse (ONC) Certification preferred.

Monday–Friday schedule with no weekend requirement

Pay: $85.00 - $90.00 per hour
