About the Role:

The OR Sterile Processing Technician in a PRN capacity plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of surgical procedures by meticulously sterilizing, assembling, and distributing surgical instruments and equipment. This position is essential in maintaining a sterile environment to prevent infections and support patient care within the manufacturing context of non-durable goods related to healthcare. The technician will be responsible for adhering to strict protocols and regulatory standards to guarantee that all instruments meet quality and safety requirements before use. This role demands precision, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a healthcare support team. Ultimately, the technician’s work directly impacts the success of surgical operations and the overall health outcomes of patients served by the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control, and safety standards.
Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain accurate records.
Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle surgical instruments safely.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or equivalent.
Completion of a sterile processing technician training program or equivalent experience in sterile processing.
Experience working in a healthcare or manufacturing environment related to sterile processing.
Familiarity with non-durable goods manufacturing processes related to medical or surgical supplies.
Strong organizational skills and experience with inventory management systems.
Ability to work flexible hours in a PRN (as-needed) capacity.

Responsibilities:

Sterilize, clean, and prepare surgical instruments and equipment according to established protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage, ensuring all items meet quality standards before distribution.
Assemble surgical instrument trays and sets tailored to specific procedures, maintaining accurate inventory and documentation.
Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners, monitoring cycles and maintaining equipment logs.
Collaborate with surgical teams and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely availability of sterile supplies during procedures.

Skills:

The required skills such as knowledge of sterilization techniques and infection control are applied daily to ensure all surgical instruments are safe and sterile for use, directly impacting patient safety. Attention to detail is critical when inspecting instruments and assembling surgical trays to prevent errors that could compromise surgical outcomes. Communication skills are used to coordinate effectively with surgical teams and other healthcare staff to meet procedural needs promptly. Preferred skills like certification and experience with inventory systems enhance efficiency and accuracy in managing surgical supplies and equipment. Additionally, the ability to adapt to a PRN schedule requires strong time management and flexibility to respond to varying workload demands.
