Line Cleaning Technician

Systems Pumping and Maintenance

JOB SUMMARY

This position participates in the cleaning of gravity sewer mains and lift stations.

MAJOR DUTIES

Participates in the cleaning and maintenance of gravity sewer mains.
Participates in the cleaning of sewer lift stations; assists with lift station emergencies.
Participates in the cleaning of wastewater treatment plant clarifiers, headworks, splitter boxes, grit chambers and grit boxes.
Cleans up sewer spills; Responds to customer complaints and concerns; investigates and resolves problems.
Participates in root and tap cutting on gravity sewer mains; Assists with the bioaugmentation program.
Assists in the maintenance of vehicles, tools and equipment.
Prepares daily log sheets.
Responds to after-hours emergencies when on-call.
Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge of wastewater collection system operation and maintenance principles.
Knowledge of wastewater system cleaning principles, procedures, tools and equipment.
Knowledge of the hazards inherent to sewer maintenance work and the safety measures used to mitigate those hazards.
Knowledge of bio-enzymes used for grease control.
Skill in the operation of a combination cleaner, jetter, easement machine, and other job-related tools and equipment.
Skill in troubleshooting and resolving sewer maintenance problems.
Skill in the application of bio-enzymes.
Skill in oral and written communication.

Guidelines include division and agency policies, procedures and standards. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The work consists of related technical duties. The volume of work contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to participate in the cleaning of the wastewater collection system. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of system operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. (Class B CDL with tanker endorsement within six months.)
