What We Want
The Student Development Specialist II is responsible for programmatic support and advising of the Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG). This position is devoted to supervising the Student Research Week director and support the governance board with all programming planning and execution. Additionally, tis position oversees the Grad Camp Director and works directly with programming co-chairs and directors to support the GPSG. The SDS II assists in the development and execution of planning, promoting, and implementing student developmental programs/activities/services for the GPSG Governance Board. This position has afterhours commitments, with a standing board meeting on Tuesdays and programs throughout the semester.

Responsibilities
Student Advising
Supervision
Supervise and advise the Student Research Week Director, a GANT position. Assist with the formation and advising of the Student Research Week committee. Attend regularly scheduled Student Research Week meetings, including all funding meetings.
Programming
Advise, coordinate and assist in facilitation of Graduate and Professional Student Government programming efforts, including Grad Camp, Stand out and Succeed, Student Research Week, Bring Your Own Research, workshops, and the annual awards banquet. Manage, coordinate and facilitate Student Life programs including Graduate and Professional Student Wine Tasting and Student Life Spotlight events. Provide oversight and support for Student Research Week, a week-long research event focused on undergraduate and graduate student competition in both oral and poster sessions; as well as plenary sessions.

Coordinate training and activities that enhance the graduate student leadership experience focused in communication, unity, team building, and conflict management.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Leadership or equivalent area from an accredited college or university.
Direct student advising experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to apply college student development and advising principals to effectively advise graduate and professional students.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Ability to positively and professionally interact with students and staff.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Working knowledge of office software and instructional computer programs – like Google Drive, the Microsoft suite (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies.
Ability to orally comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
