Full Job Description

Comms & Marketing Intern (part-time, onsite)

Thank you for your interest in interning with MATTERS. MATTERS (a division of UBMD Emergency Medicine) is a multi-state opiate use treatment referral network that connects individuals to outpatient follow-up care and provides harm reduction resources.

MATTERS interns will gain experience working with program managers at a growing, mission-driven organization that offers harm reduction supplies, education, and services, and a rapid referral program linking patients with opioid use disorder to treatment and resources. Our interns will focus on different aspects of nonprofit work including program development and implementation, marketing, research, and public health education, among other duties.

Primary Functions

Assist in the development of engaging public health communications. Communications may include but are not limited to educational materials, social media posts, flyers, educational materials, and more
Shadow team members and participate in providing program-related education and outreach as appropriate
Research emerging trends in the illicit supply, treatment, policy, and other topics as assigned, and collaborate on public communications regarding these trends
Assist in the review and refinement of communications, education, and message dissemination materials to utilize in the future
Work collaboratively with MATTERs team to implement strategic plans

Job Requirements

Enrolled in a business, marketing, journalism, communications, or related Master's Degree program, at an accredited university.
Ability to be onsite in Buffalo, NY for the duration of the internship
The intern will work an average of 7-10 hours a week. Interns will receive weekly direct supervision from the Marketing Coordinator and work collaboratively with their supervisor to determine their schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in creating content for brands on digital platforms
Demonstrated experience assisting with websites and online communities
Experience working with underserved or stigmatized populations
Relevant knowledge in public health, health education, social work, behavioral health, health care, or other related field
Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, providers, and partners
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills
Complex problem-solving, communication, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills

Pay: $16.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
