Full Job Description

This is a newly created role — not a backfill, not a vacancy left behind. ECAS is growing its finance function because the organization demands it, and this hire makes that possible.

If you are an experienced accountant looking for work that actually connects to something where the numbers you close in November helped fund concerts, competitions, a 12-day fair, and a festival that hundreds of thousands of Western New Yorkers attend, this is worth reading carefully.

ABOUT ECAS

The Erie County Agricultural Society has been part of Western New York since 1819 — the oldest civic organization in the region and the producers of the Erie County Fair, the third largest county fair in the United States. Beyond the Fair, we produce the Festival of Lights livestock shows, scholarship programs, and year-round community events on our 340-acre Hamburg campus.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As Senior Accountant, you will work directly with the Controller and CFO across the full financial cycle of a complex, multi-entity operation. You will own meaningful pieces of the close, the reporting, the compliance, and the day-to-day accounting that keeps a year-round event and programming organization running at a high level.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

▪ Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards

▪ Manage general ledger accounting — journal entries, account reconciliations, and activity analysis

▪ Prepare financial statements across multiple entities and programs; consolidate trial balances

▪ Perform monthly bank reconciliations and maintain general ledger accuracy

▪ Support annual audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors

▪ Maintain fixed asset schedules; manage intercompany accounting and reconciliations

▪ Track event-related revenue, commissions, and operational financial activity across concerts, the Fair, and other programming

▪ Prepare and file quarterly sales tax returns; prepare and distribute annual 1099s

▪ Prepare Form 990 and related schedules

▪ Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and cash management

▪ Contribute to process improvement and workflow enhancement initiatives

WHAT YOU BRING

▪ Bachelor's degree in Accounting — completed or in progress

▪ Minimum three years of public accounting or directly comparable experience

▪ Strong foundation in general ledger accounting, trial balances, and account analysis

▪ Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; QuickBooks experience strongly preferred

▪ Ability to manage multiple priorities with precision and composure under deadline

▪ High standard of confidentiality and professional judgment

▪ Comfort in a dynamic, event-driven environment where the calendar has real peaks — and real payoffs

POSITION DETAILS

Location:

On-site — 5600 McKinley Parkway, Hamburg, NY 14075

Schedule:

Full-time, 40 hours per week

Event Availability:

All 12 days of the Erie County Fair (August) plus select evenings/weekends for the Festival of Lights and other events

Compensation:

$32.00 – $36.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
