Full Job Description

About the Role:

Reliance Clothing is seeking an experienced Assistant Store Manager with a strong background in specialty retail sales, client development, and store operations. This person will help lead our Burlingame boutique, grow sales, and build lasting customer relationships.

This is a hands-on position for a confident seller and capable store operator who can deliver personalized service, make thoughtful styling recommendations, and manage the store's daily priorities. When the owner is not present, the Assistant Store Manager is responsible for the sales floor, customer experience, and day-to-day operations.

Because Reliance is a small, owner-operated boutique, the role is varied. The right person enjoys moving between customers, client outreach, merchandising, receiving, fulfillment, events, and special projects while keeping sales and service at the center of the day.

What You'll Do:

Create a polished, welcoming, and personalized shopping experience.
Style customers, make thoughtful recommendations, and build complete purchases through service-focused selling.
Take ownership of store sales goals and contribute to conversion, average order value, and units per transaction.
Build customer relationships through personalized follow-up, outreach, and relevant product recommendations.
Open and close the store and confidently manage solo coverage.
Maintain a clean, organized, well-stocked, and visually inviting sales floor.
Support receiving, replenishment, inventory accuracy, online fulfillment, and Shopify tasks.
Assist with merchandising, events, promotions, and Reliance's embroidery and permanent jewelry services after training.
Help guide part-time or seasonal employees and communicate clearly with the owner about store performance and priorities.

Client Development:

Clienteling is part of the regular rhythm of the store. Some focused outreach time may be designated, but the Assistant Store Manager is also expected to use natural downtime productively for customer follow-up and other business-building work.

Formal CRM or client-book experience is preferred. We will also consider a strong specialty-retail leader who has demonstrated relationship-building ability and understands how personalized follow-up generates repeat business.

Required Experience:

At least three years of direct retail sales experience.
At least one year in a retail leadership role such as keyholder, sales lead, department lead, assistant manager, store manager, or a comparable position.
Experience working toward individual or store sales goals.
Strong personalized selling, styling, or product-recommendation skills.
Experience opening, closing, and assuming responsibility for a retail sales floor.
Strong initiative, judgment, time management, organization, and follow-through.
Availability to work 32-40 hours per week, including weekends and key retail holidays.
Ability to stand and walk for most of a shift and lift boxes weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.

Direct retail sales experience is required. General customer service or hospitality experience without direct retail sales responsibility does not meet this requirement.

Preferred Experience:

Fashion, apparel, accessories, jewelry, beauty, luxury, or lifestyle retail; clienteling or CRM; visual merchandising; retail KPIs; Shopify or ecommerce; inventory receiving; employee training; and store events or community outreach.

An interest in helping with occasional social media content is preferred. Regular on-camera participation is not required. Prior embroidery or permanent jewelry experience is not required; training will be provided.

Compensation and Perks:

$24-$30 per hour, depending on directly relevant experience, plus an employee merchandise discount and training in embroidery and permanent jewelry.

Reliance Clothing is an independently owned Burlingame Avenue boutique offering elevated everyday clothing, accessories, custom embroidery, permanent jewelry, and personalized styling.
