Full Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Operating Room Registered Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team. This vital role involves providing exceptional perioperative care to patients undergoing various surgical procedures within a fast-paced hospital environment. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of aseptic techniques, patient assessment, and advanced nursing practices, ensuring optimal patient outcomes. This position offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative setting that values professionalism, precision, and compassionate patient care.

Responsibilities

Prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary sterile equipment and supplies are available and properly maintained.
Assist surgeons and surgical teams during procedures, maintaining strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
Monitor patient vital signs continuously, assess patient status pre-, intra-, and post-operatively, and respond promptly to any changes.
Administer medications, including anesthesia support, and manage IV infusions with precision and safety.
Document all aspects of patient care accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems, including medical documentation, medication administration, and procedural notes.
Provide patient education regarding perioperative procedures, post-operative care, and recovery expectations.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams such as anesthesiology, radiology (including CT imaging), laboratory services, and physical therapy to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and hospital policies to protect patient confidentiality.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to infection control, trauma medicine standards, and NCQA standards.
Support emergency response procedures within the OR setting, including airway management and acute pain management protocols.

Experience

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current state licensure required.
Proven experience working in an operating room environment with demonstrated proficiency in aseptic technique and sterile processing.
Prior OR experience involving complex surgical procedures such as cardiac catheterization, trauma surgery (Level I or II trauma center experience), or neurosurgery is highly desirable.
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate medical records management.
Experience supporting diverse specialties including ophthalmology, pediatrics, geriatrics, or behavioral health is advantageous.
Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology related to surgical nursing practices.
Additional experience in pain management, infection control protocols, or hospice & palliative medicine is a plus.
