Full Job Description

For over a century Associated Humane Societies have offered a haven to abused and neglected animals. Founded in 1906, AHS is the LARGEST animal sheltering system in New Jersey. We operate four shelters located in Newark, Tinton Falls, Vineland, and Forked River. Our Forked River facility also includes Popcorn Park. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused or elderly-exotic animals, birds, farm animals and wildlife (both domestic and exotic).

AHS is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and caring Animal Keeper for our Popcorn Park Refuge. In this vital role, you’ll assist in keeping all our refuge residents healthy and happy in their forever homes within Popcorn Park. You’ll assist in administering treatments, observing our residents, updating our logs and reporting any concerns to management.

· Animal care: preparing food, feeding animals & providing fresh water

· Clean & maintain animal habitats

· Observe other shelter animals for signs of illness, distress, disease and work with our veterinarians to care for sick animals

· Observe animal behavior and assist in training them for safe interactions

· Communicate, communicate, communicate any and all concerns related to our animals’ health, behavior and any other points you may have.

· Work closely with the entire AHS team for the best possible lives for our residents.

· Interact with the public as needed for animal safety & questions.

· Keen interest in animal care and rescue

· Commitment to AHS’ mission

· Competency in proper animal handling skills

· Ability to sometimes work outdoors in an often-noisy environment

· Ability to stand for long periods of time with lots of bending, lifting and walking.

· Ability to lift up to 50lbs

· Ability to self-energize and to self-assess and seek to learn areas of the job that may require training and study to master.

· Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

This position will work four, ten hour shifts, with one weekend day included.
