PART-TIME HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS CONTENT PRODUCER/WRITER
ValleySportsDaily is seeking part-time Content Producers/Freelance Journalists to help expand our coverage of high school sports throughout the Merrimack Valley Conference.
Coming off a successful first year, ValleySportsDaily is ready to take its coverage to the next level. We are looking for motivated writers and content creators who can help us tell the stories of the athletes, teams and communities that make up the Merrimack Valley Conference.
Content Producers will be assigned sports based on their experience, interests and availability. Assignments may range from coverage of two sports to a broader year-round role covering several sports across multiple seasons.
Coverage may include game stories, weekly notebooks, features, interviews, news updates, social media posts and other original content. We expect to hire multiple Content Producers with different levels of experience and availability.
Responsibilities
- Produce regular coverage of assigned sports throughout the fall, winter and spring seasons
- Attend games and events throughout the Merrimack Valley Conference
- Write game stories, features, weekly notebooks, previews and other original stories
- Develop relationships with coaches, athletes and athletic departments
- Identify compelling local stories, trends, rivalries and athletes to feature
- Conduct interviews and gather accurate statistics and background information
- Submit clean, accurate copy on deadline
- Provide live or postgame social media updates from assigned events
- Create social media content that promotes stories, highlights results and helps grow ValleySportsDaily's audience
- Provide photos, video or other multimedia content when possible
- Communicate regularly with the Editor about upcoming coverage, assignments and story ideas
- Contribute to postseason coverage, league awards and other special projects
Qualifications
- Strong writing, reporting and communication skills
- A genuine interest in high school sports and local journalism
- Ability to attend games in the Merrimack Valley area on a regular basis
- Availability during afternoons, evenings and weekends
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to meet deadlines and work independently
- Strong attention to detail, particularly with names, statistics and game information
- Previous journalism, communications, sports media or content creation experience is preferred but not required
- College students, recent graduates, freelance writers, experienced journalists and professionals seeking part-time sports media work are encouraged to apply
- Photography, video, podcasting or social media experience is a plus
Location and Schedule
This is a part-time, flexible position that combines remote writing with frequent in-person coverage in the Merrimack Valley area.
Most assignments will take place during afternoons, evenings and weekends. The number of sports, assignments and weekly hours will depend on each Content Producer's experience, interests and availability.
Compensation
This is a paid part-time position. Compensation will be based on experience, availability, assignment volume and the final scope of responsibilities.

Content Producers may have the opportunity to take on additional sports, assignments and editorial responsibilities based on performance, experience, availability and the continued growth of Valley Sports Daily.
