The Opportunity

We are looking for someone who knows the used car business and wants the opportunity to run the process from beginning to end.

This is not a traditional car sales position where you stand on a lot waiting for customers. You will be responsible for identifying vehicles worth buying, purchasing them within established parameters, getting them ready for market, listing and marketing them, and ultimately selling them for a profit.

We provide the capital. You provide the automotive knowledge, judgment, organization, and ability to execute.

The right person will essentially own the day-to-day operation of our automotive buying and selling business and will have the opportunity to participate financially in the profits they help create.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Buying Vehicles

You will identify vehicles that fit our buying criteria and have enough potential margin to make sense for the business. This will include:

Attending and monitoring vehicle auctions
Searching online and other available buying channels
Evaluating vehicle condition, history, market value, and resale potential
Estimating recon and repair costs before purchasing
Making buying recommendations and purchasing within established parameters
Maintaining discipline around purchase price and projected margin

Managing Reconditioning

Once a vehicle is purchased, you will manage the process of getting it ready to sell.

This includes:

Inspecting vehicles and identifying needed repairs
Coordinating mechanical work when necessary
Coordinating detailing and cosmetic work
Managing outside vendors
Keeping reconditioning costs within budget
Making sure vehicles move through the process quickly instead of sitting

You do not have to personally perform every repair or detail. You do need to make sure it gets done correctly and efficiently.

Marketing & Selling

Once a vehicle is ready, you will be responsible for getting it in front of buyers and getting it sold.

This includes:

Taking or coordinating quality vehicle photos
Writing accurate and effective listings
Listing vehicles on Facebook Marketplace, eBay, Craigslist, and other appropriate platforms
Responding to potential buyers
Scheduling vehicle showings
Negotiating with buyers
Managing the sales process through completion

What We’re Looking For

We are specifically interested in someone who already understands the used vehicle business.

The ideal candidate has experience with some combination of:

Used car buying and selling
Automotive auctions
Used car dealerships
Wholesale automotive
Vehicle appraisal
Automotive sales
Inventory management
Vehicle reconditioning
Independent car buying/flipping
Online automotive marketplaces

You should be comfortable looking at a vehicle and answering three important questions:

What can we buy it for?

What will it cost us to get it ready?

What can we realistically sell it for?

If you understand those three numbers and know how to manage everything between the purchase and the sale, we want to talk to you.

The Person We’re Looking For

This position requires someone who can operate independently.

We are looking for someone who:

Understands how to make money buying and selling vehicles
Has strong automotive knowledge
Can recognize a good opportunity and walk away from a bad one
Is comfortable negotiating
Is organized enough to manage multiple vehicles at different stages
Takes ownership without needing constant direction
Understands that inventory sitting costs money
Is motivated by performance and profitability
Treats company money like it is their own

Compensation

Our goal is to build a compensation structure that rewards performance.

In addition to agreed-upon base compensation, this position will have the opportunity to earn a percentage of the profit generated from vehicles sold.

The better you buy, manage costs, move inventory, and sell, the more opportunity you have to earn.

We want the person running this operation to think like an owner, and we believe their compensation should reflect that.

You’ll have established buying parameters and company capital behind you, but you’ll also have significant responsibility for making the operation successful.
