Leaders in Community Alternatives, Inc. (LCA) is a criminal justice organization that has provided re-entry services in California since 1991. LCA provides Employment Services and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) groups, runs day reporting centers, and provides electronic monitoring services throughout California.
We are currently seeking qualified applicants for Reentry Specialists (RS) with an interest in helping their community to join our company, in partnership with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office (SSO), for their in-custody program at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center (RCCC) in Elk Grove. POSITION SUMMARY: The Sheriff’s Office Reentry Services Unit provides a wide range of support services, including in-custody and post-release drug and alcohol treatment, to justice-involved males and females at RCCC. The program's mission is to enhance public safety by reducing recidivism. Reentry Services utilizes effective programming approaches through collaboration with public and private community partners to assist justice involved participants in reintegrating into their communities. Reentry Services offers vocational, educational, and treatment programs to provide justice involved participants with skills and tools for successful reentry into the community.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Reentry Specialists communicate and coordinate with two supervisors in the performance of their assigned duties; the Director of Program Services at LCA and the SSO Program Coordinator at RCCC. Additionally, the job requires Reentry Specialists to navigate both agency’s computer systems to complete duties and responsibilities, such as taking time off, attending training, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide reentry services to participants with a caseload at a ratio of 1:25.
- Coordinate post-release services, including mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment, general assistance benefits, housing, and other community resources.
- Knowledge of LCA’s community-based programs.
- Familiarity with the LCA Employee Handbook, Personnel Policy and Operations Manual, and Operating Procedures Manual (all procedures and policies included on the LCA Forms and Files site).
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Complete in-service training to meet the requirements for continued personal and professional self-development (40 hours per year). See LCA Employee Handbook.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Complete intakes for participants, including various assessments and client data collection.
- Create group schedules based on assessments.
- Develop client-driven initial and exit case plans.
- Meet with participants bi-weekly while in custody and once per month, in the community, post-release.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings to discuss client progress and concerns.
- Timely document participant progress in the web-based jail program.
- Facilitate treatment groups.
- Observe and notify pertinent staff of significant participant behaviors; for example, changed appearance, interactions, group participation, or other notable conduct. Immediately notify SSO staff in the event of a potentially dangerous situation.
- Notify both the Director of Program Services at LCA and the SSO Program Coordinator at RCCC of any problems/issues.
- Maintain confidentiality of information obtained through job duties regarding employees, participants, outside agencies, etc.
- Positively engage participants using strength-based approaches such as Motivational Interviewing (MI) and CBT.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Registered Alcohol/Drug Technician (RADT) or Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor (CADC) certification is preferred but not required.
- Experience working in the reentry field, custody or community setting, is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a valid California Driver's License.
- Have a safe and reliable vehicle.
- Be able to read, write, and speak the English language; the ability to communicate in a second language, is highly desired.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Have the ability to express thoughts logically, both verbally and in writing, using correct grammar.
- Effectively communicate with all levels of staff in a manner that promotes a "team spirit" and sense of cooperation.
- Have the ability to multi-task to meet program objectives.
- Have a general level of personal discipline to meet schedules and deadlines promptly and effectively.
- Possess interpersonal skills which promote an effective working relationship with staff, managers, participants, and outside business partners and agencies.
- Be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Regular work days and hours: There are three shifts: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 AM-4:30 PM, Tuesday through Friday, 6:00 AM-4:30 PM, and Wednesday through Saturday, 6:00 AM-4:30 PM. Shifts are determined based on the program's needs.
