Full Job Description

Journey Design Build is seeking a Mid-Level Architect to join our design-build practice in a full-time capacity. This is a primarily remote position for a Los Angeles-based architect, supporting residential and commercial projects throughout the Los Angeles area, with required jobsite visits as needed.

As a true design-build firm, our architectural team stays involved from early design through permitting and construction. This role will work under the direction of a Senior Architect and offers a unique opportunity to gain direct experience with how design decisions, drawings, details, and specifications translate into built work.

The ideal candidate will be based in the Los Angeles area and able to travel to project jobsites as needed. While much of the work can be performed remotely, the role requires periodic jobsite visits to review field conditions, coordinate with the project team and contractors, and help address construction issues as they arise.

Responsibilities

Produce and maintain coordinated 2D drawing sets and 3D project models from design development through construction documents.
Produce and coordinate floor plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, and permit drawings.
Develop construction details based on direction and markups from the Senior Architect.
Research unfamiliar materials, assemblies, code issues, and construction conditions and bring forward well-considered findings or proposed solutions.
Assist with consultant coordination and plan-check revisions.
Prepare construction sketches, field details, and supplemental drawings.
Assist with specifications and construction documentation.
Support RFIs, submittals, field conditions, and drawing revisions during construction.
Work closely with both the architectural and construction teams to resolve design and field issues.

Qualifications

Professional degree in Architecture or a related field.
Approximately 3–7 years of professional architectural experience preferred.
Strong understanding of architectural plans, elevations, sections, and detailing.
Experience producing permit and construction-document drawing sets.
Working knowledge of building assemblies and construction methods.
Strong drafting, coordination, and organizational skills.
Ability to work from sketches, redlines, and design direction while taking ownership of assigned work.
Comfortable researching unfamiliar conditions and developing thoughtful solutions.
Strong interest in both architecture and construction.

Compensation: $73,000–$114,000 annualized, depending on experience, technical ability, and level of independence.
Tax Classification: 1099

Because Journey Design Build operates across both architecture and construction, this role offers exposure to the full life of a project—from design and permitting through detailing, specifications, construction coordination, and execution in the field. We are looking for someone who wants to become a stronger architect by understanding not only how buildings are designed and documented, but how they are actually built.

Pay: $73,000.00 - $114,000.00 per year
