Division: St. Joseph Center Salary Grade: 8
Department: Regina Residence Salary Range: $26.75 to $37.45 (commensurate

with education & experience)
Reports to: Director of Pastoral Care Last Update: 05/18/2026

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Pastoral Care, the Pastoral Care
Associate provides compassionate pastoral, spiritual, and emotional support to the residents of
Regina Residence, an inter-congregational retirement community sponsored by the Sisters of St.
Joseph of Orange.

Working collaboratively with the Pastoral Care team, Administration, Caregivers, Activities, and
other interdisciplinary staff, this position supports the whole-person well-being of residents
through pastoral presence, spiritual companionship, liturgical support, and accompaniment
during aging, illness, and end-of-life transitions.

The Pastoral Care Associate is expected to uphold the mission, values, and spirit of hospitality of
the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange while maintaining professionalism, discretion, and respect for
the dignity and life experiences of each resident.

Essential Functions: This position is not limited to the essential functions listed below. Other
projects and duties may be assigned.

Develop pastoral relationships with residents through compassionate presence, active

listening, and supportive conversation.

Support residents in reflecting on their spirituality, life experiences, ministry, and current

needs.

Collaborate with the Director of Pastoral Care to provide spiritual and emotional support

for residents and staff.

Assist in planning and coordinating liturgies, prayer services, sacramental celebrations,

retreats, and spiritual programming.

Support residents’ participation in meetings, celebrations, and community events.
Serve as a communication liaison between Regina Residence and St. Joseph Center

departments regarding resident participation in activities and events.

Provide pastoral presence during illness, hospitalization, transition, and end-of-life care

as appropriate.

Assist residents with personal support needs such as reading, letter writing, and

companionship as time permits.

Prepare pastoral materials, correspondence, forms, and documentation as requested.
Maintain discretion and confidentiality regarding pastoral conversations, resident care,

medical information, and staff relationships.

Collaborate effectively with Administration, Caregiving, Activities, and other

interdisciplinary teams in support of whole-person care.

Participate in departmental meetings, shared projects, and ministry formation

opportunities.

Position Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform
each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of

Required Qualifications: 

Formation or education in theology, pastoral ministry, spirituality, or a related field. 
Understanding of contemporary Catholic spirituality and practice. 
Familiarity with the life and mission of women religious. 
Compassionate, patient, and relational pastoral presence. 
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. 
Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills. 
Openness to learning and working within an inter-congregational environment. 
Appreciation for whole-person care and the aging process.

• Preferred Qualifications: 
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Pastoral Ministry, Theology, Spirituality, or related

field. 
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent pastoral care training. 
Experience ministering with elder adults and/or women religious. 
Experience in pastoral care, chaplaincy, healthcare ministry, or spiritual accompaniment. 
Religious Sister or lay pastoral minister experience welcomed.

Ability to move throughout the Regina Residence campus and resident care areas.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift materials up to 15 pounds as needed.
Ability to visit residents in various care settings, including bedside and hospital

environments.

Work Schedule: Monday – Thursday, Part-time, 24-hours per week schedule. Flexibility to
occasionally work evenings, weekends, and provide pastoral presence during urgent or end-of-
life situations is required.
