About Women’s Empowerment

Women’s Empowerment is a Sacramento-based nonprofit dedicated to educating and empowering women experiencing homelessness with the tools, skills, and confidence to secure stable employment, achieve housing stability, and create healthy lives for themselves and their children.

As the most comprehensive job-readiness program in the region serving homeless women and their families, Women’s Empowerment is committed to ending homelessness one woman and one family at a time. Our team operates in a collaborative, strengths-based, and trauma-informed environment focused on excellence and community impact.

Position Summary

The Development Manager leads the planning and execution of Women’s Empowerment’s comprehensive fund development strategies to ensure the organization’s growth and long-term sustainability. This role oversees fundraising initiatives, donor cultivation, sponsorship and events, including the annual Gala.

As a key representative of the organization, the Development Manager serves as one of the faces of Women’s Empowerment in the community, engaging with donors, corporate partners, media, and stakeholders. The role also supervises the Development team and contributes to strategic planning and organizational leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Fund Development

With the Executive Director Develop and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising plan with specific strategies and measurable goals for each revenue stream.

Provide regular progress reports and analysis to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

Build a strong culture of philanthropy across staff, board, and volunteers.

Partner with the Executive Director and Fund Development Committee to engage and equip Board members to fulfill their fundraising responsibilities.

Conduct ongoing evaluation of donor trends and metrics to inform strategy and decision-making.

Donor Relations and Stewardship

Cultivate and steward relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors.

Expand major gift, planned giving, and recurring donor programs.

Oversee the development of appeal letters, annual reports, and stewardship materials.

Ensure consistent and timely donor acknowledgment and recognition in partnership with the Development team.

Grants Management

Collaborate with the Executive Director and grant writer to identify new grant opportunities aligned with programmatic priorities.

Coordinate development of proposals, narratives, budgets, and grant reports.

Maintain accurate and current grant tracking and reporting systems.

Events and Campaigns

Lead planning and execution of the Annual Gala and other fundraising events with the Event Coordinator to achieve annual financial goals.

Support third-party fundraising events led by community partners.

Oversee event budgets, sponsorship solicitation, and post-event evaluation.

Leadership and Supervision

Supervise the 1.5 Development team members, setting clear goals and conducting regular performance reviews.

Provide mentorship, direction, and accountability to ensure teamwork and professional growth.

Serve on the Leadership Team to contribute to organization-wide planning and strategy.

Communications and Community Engagement

Collaborate with the marketing consultant to align fundraising and communications strategies.

Represent the organization publicly at community events, media appearances, and speaking engagements.

Advance the organization’s brand and messaging to raise awareness and support for its mission.

Build and sustain relationships with community leaders, partners, and donors.

Data, Reporting and Budgeting

Oversee donor database integrity and ensure accurate data entry, reporting, and segmentation.

Develop and monitor the annual development budget in collaboration with the Director of Finance and Executive Director.

Prepare regular reports on fundraising performance, revenue, and expenses.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Minimum 3 to 5 years of professional experience in fund development, including donor cultivation, grant writing, and major event planning.

Proven track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals.

Excellent written, oral, and public presentation skills.

Strong working knowledge of donor database management and Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate professionalism.
