Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Utility Pole Assessor to join our civil infrastructure team. In this vital role, you will inventory and collect measurements of the utility pole heights and document the pole or structure identification tag data, identify-inventory and measure the utility pole attachments heights, measure attachment lengths, pole separation distances, and wire sag. Your expertise will ensure that utility poles, or structures, and their attachments and equipment are thoroughly documented. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to our expanding transmission and distribution projects through thorough inspections, technical analysis, and collaboration with our design and construction teams.

Responsibilities

Document existing pole or structure conditions, pole or structure identifiers, materials, attachment conditions, adjacent spans, access constraints, constructability issues, and surrounding conditions needed to support a complete design or fielding package.
Measure pole heights, pole attachment heights and lengths, pole to pole distance, cable and wire sag.
Identify and document all pole attachments including cross arms, cables, wires, pins, insulators, jumpers, master arms, luminaire, transformers, anchor or guy information, etc.
Collect and organize photos of the pole or structure, structure tag, pole number, climbing space, riser or stub at base, attached facilities from base to top, adjacent structures or spans, and other conditions needed to support design development, review, pole loading, and package completeness.
Verify attachment spacing, clearances, joint-use conditions, third-party attachments, telecom or foreign attachments, under-build conditions, and visible standards or GO 95 concerns, and notify the Responsible Designee when direction is required.
Provide sketches, GPS coordinates, circuit/substation information, field inventory map markups, pictures, or any other requested items for documentation.
Document observations, conditions, and measurements on a standard template form
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to interpret technical details and resolve any concerns
Ensure all inspection activities align with construction regulatory compliance standards and safety regulations

Skills

Proficiency in using a digital range finder with 2-point and 3-point measuring
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for data collection, reporting, and documentation purposes
Experience working at remote, rural, and urban sites
Strong understanding of General Order 95 rules
Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and construction plans accurately
Knowledge of utility pole or structure attachments
Excellent analysis skills for evaluating structural conditions and identifying potential risks or deficiencies
Proficient in basic algebra and trigonometry
Experience in conducting pole or structure inspections with a focus on data collection

In-Person Technical Test

An in-person technical test is required to assess the applicant’s assessment abilities.

Duration is approximately 1 hour.

Pay: $39.59 - $51.63 per hour
