Note: This position is part-time, Friday-Sundays typically 12:00pm-8:00pm.

About us

New Life Community Services provides residential addiction treatment and reentry services to individuals and families. As part of our team, your efforts can make a difference in the lives of others!

JOB SUMMARY: Under supervision of the Food Services Coordinator, the Assistant supports food preparation in accordance with nutritional guidelines and is responsible for proper food storage, kitchen sanitation, and safety monitoring. The Food Services Assistant leads food preparation and serves dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Approximate Schedule: 16-24 hours a week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assist with meal preparation - preparing dinner on Fridays and Saturdays and assisting on Sundays.
Clean large cooking trays, pots, and other equipment following meal service.
Assume responsibility for maintaining food safety and kitchen cleanliness standards on days when Chef is not on duty.
Stock food supplies for bagged and/or self-serve breakfast and lunch (served daily).
Support sanitation practices and proper inventory rotation, including tracking expiration dates, prioritizing timely use of perishable items, and ensuring safe food handling and storage.
Process, organize, and store incoming food deliveries.
Obtain and maintain required safe food handling certification.

SECONDARY DUTIES

Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor as needed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

High School diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

One year’s experience working in the food industry.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Basic training and/or experience in food preparation, nutrition, and safety. An unexpired Safe Food Handling certification (may be obtained at start of employment).

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

Active Safe Food Handling Certification.
Background check, current CPR/First Aid certification, TB test, and verification of education (transcript, copy of diploma) and past work experience.

JOB SETTING

The job is performed in an enclosed climatically controlled kitchen. Work under the direction of the Food Services Coordinator and in conjunction with the Program Manager and other personnel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The job is primarily standing with walking and sitting as it is necessary to carry out the job duties. Normal lifting and/or carrying is limited to approximately 15 lbs., with occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. Heavier items are moved by using proper material handling equipment, assistance from another person or by work order request.

Normal or corrected talking, hearing, and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform the required tasks.
