Job Summary
Sacramento-based Commercial General Contractor serving the private and public sectors, committed to customer service with an emphasis on quality, integrity and our client’s budgets, is searching for a career-minded qualified commercial construction Senior Estimator to join our exceptional team of construction professionals.

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented experienced Commercial Construction Senior Estimator to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the estimation process for large-scale commercial construction projects, ensuring accurate cost projections and competitive pricing. Your expertise will drive project profitability, foster strong client relationships through precise bidding, and support the overall success of our construction initiatives. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence project planning from the ground up while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional results.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the President/CEO and Chief Estimator Bruce Nye, the Senior Estimator will be responsible for preparing and managing estimates and preconstruction services including all related tasks.

Responsibilities:

Manage the Bid Coordinator. Assist these individuals with shared goals in mind
Assemble detailed excel based estimates for negotiated and competitive bid projects
Manage preconstruction services including design team selection and management
Review bid documents, including plans, specifications, contracts and identify bid trades
Participate in presentation meetings with owners to review and discuss the scope of work, construction methods, design recommendations, value engineering including project and client’s goals
Collaborate closely with owners and the design team to develop preliminary concept drawings for cost model (budgetary) estimating
Prepare and/or review the prime contract with the client understanding the terms and conditions
Review and monitor the timely turnaround of bid RFI’s
Review and monitor the timely receipt of subcontractor, supplier an vendor bid submittals
Prepare quantity take-offs using Bluebeam construction software
Prepare labor hour and material quantity unit cost estimates
Prepare subcontractors scope of work bid documents for conceptual estimating purposes
Have specific trade knowledge and experience to provide you the ability to estimate conceptually
Communicate owners, subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, architects and engineers in a professional and knowledgeable manner
Complete bid forms including processing bond and insurance documentation
Analyze bids and make recommendations for subcontractor selection
Subcontractor selection and buy-out including drafting and negotiating subcontracts
Ensure accurate and complete project estimates
Plan and conduct onsite prebid site inspection meetings with subcontractors
Make sound decisions under tight deadlines maintaining company integrity in the process
Organize, plan, and manage multiple activities to accomplish desired results
Use customer input to make improvements, and meet/exceed internal and external client expectations
Present schedule of values/change orders to the client and obtain written authorization to proceed
Act in a manner of integrity that shows support for the company, its values, and other associates, while maintaining a constant focus on meeting/exceeding customer requirements and expectations

Experience Requirements:

Minimum of 10 years of Commercial General Contracting estimating experience
Minimum of 10 years in design build estimating experience
Minimum of 10 years bidding Public Works projects
Knowledge and ability to generate accurate scope and pricing based on limited information.
Ability to manage a workload of multiple projects and estimates
Experience bidding projects in the $100K to $20M range
Experience in preconstruction estimating including conceptual estimating
Experience in estimating design build projects
Building code knowledge including Title-24 ADA and energy code
College degree in Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering a plus
Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Project, Bluebeam and Procore software a plus.
Self-motivated, detailed and organized team player
The ability to regularly demonstrate and produce successful outcomes
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Ability to negotiate, motivate and communicate effectively
Project Management Professional or PMP Certification is a plus
Specific trade knowledge and experience is a plus

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday. Pay is commensurate with experience. Please forward your resume and salary requirements for consideration.

Duties

Prepare comprehensive construction estimates by analyzing project plans, specifications, and bid documents using industry-standard software such as HeavyBid and Bluebeam.
Collaborate with project managers, architects, and clients to develop accurate project scopes and budgets.
Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and pricing strategies to ensure competitive yet profitable bids.
Negotiate contracts and terms with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to secure favorable conditions.
Utilize construction site experience to assess potential risks, site conditions, and logistical considerations that impact costs.
Manage cost control throughout the project lifecycle by monitoring budgets, tracking changes, and adjusting estimates accordingly.
Lead bid presentations and communicate estimation findings clearly to stakeholders, supporting decision-making processes.

Experience

Proven experience in construction estimating within commercial design build and public works projects, demonstrating a strong understanding of construction management principles.
Extensive knowledge of construction estimating software such as Excel, Building Connected and Bluebeam is essential.
Demonstrated ability to negotiate with subcontractors, vendors, and clients all the while maintaining ethics.
Hands-on construction experience that provides insight into field operations and project execution challenges.
Familiarity with contracts, project management methodologies, and cost control techniques is highly desirable.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
