Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Staff Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Labor & Delivery to join our dynamic maternity care team. This vital role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to women during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods, ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of both mother and newborn. The ideal candidate will possess extensive clinical expertise, exceptional patient assessment skills, and a compassionate approach to maternal health. This position offers an opportunity to work within a state-of-the-art facility committed to excellence in obstetric care.

Duties

Monitor and assess maternal and fetal health throughout labor and delivery using advanced clinical techniques and physiology knowledge.
Administer medications, including epidurals and other analgesics, following hospital protocols and pain management standards.
Assist with obstetric procedures such as suturing, fetal monitoring, and sterile technique during deliveries.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including obstetricians, anesthesiologists, and neonatal staff to coordinate patient care plans.
Educate patients on childbirth processes, postpartum care, breastfeeding support, and newborn care practices.
Maintain accurate medical documentation within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
Respond promptly to obstetric emergencies utilizing Level I Trauma Center experience when necessary, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients during labor, utilizing trauma medicine principles when applicable.

Requirements

Valid RN license with current registration in the state of practice.
Proven experience in Labor & Delivery nursing within hospital or teaching hospital settings.
Critical care experience with proficiency in fetal monitoring, IV infusion, catheterization, and aseptic technique.
Familiarity with advanced obstetric procedures including cesarean sections, spinal taps, and neonatal ventilator management.
Knowledge of ICD-10 coding standards for accurate documentation and billing processes.
Experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs is preferred; compassion for diverse patient populations is essential.
Strong understanding of infection control protocols, HIPAA compliance, and medical terminology relevant to obstetrics.
Ability to perform physical examinations, vital signs assessment, specimen collection/processing, and emergency response procedures efficiently.
