California Northstate University (CNU) is a private university with the main campus located in Elk Grove, California, approximately 15 miles south of Sacramento. CNU is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The Elk Grove facility currently houses the College of Pharmacy, College of Medicine and Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences Programs.
The California Northstate University College of Health Sciences (CNUCHS) campus is located at 2910 Prospect Park Drive, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670 along with the College of Psychology and Master of Healthcare Administration Programs. The College of Health Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS) degree, and accelerated undergraduate and post-baccalaureate programs and pathways. The CNUCHS curriculum is designed to provide excellent academic preparation for careers in the biomedical professions.
Position Overview:
The California Northstate University College of Health Science (CNUCHS) is seeking excellent teaching faculty for physics and mathematics instruction in the BSHS and BSN Program. The physics and mathematics faculty will promote and support the mission of the College of Health Sciences at California Northstate University by providing quality instruction in physics lecture and/or laboratory, college algebra, pre-calculus, calculus. The candidate must demonstrate pedagogical expertise and content knowledge. This position is 100% in person, on campus. Faculty are expected to maintain the highest standard of classroom teaching excellence, adhere to college policy, and hold regular office hours for student assistance.
Courses of Primary Teaching Responsibility:
● Physics I & II with laboratory
● College Algebra
● Pre-Calculus
● Differential and Integral Calculus
● Applied Statistics (preferred)
● Other courses as assigned
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan courses and prepare syllabi for approval by the curriculum committee.
- Work in a collaborative manner with other colleagues to provide exemplary academics.
- Make effective use of appropriate technology, learning software, and the learning management system in course delivery.
- Develop an effective teaching style informed by best practices in education literature.
- Perform data collection related to monitoring of program and general education learning outcomes as needed to fulfill assessment requirements and to monitor student success.
- Communicate effectively with students regarding course content, assignments, and exams.
- Keep regular office hours for students, provide tutoring assistance as needed, and perform student advising duties.
- Keep active in academic field of specialization through professional development, scholarly research, publishing, and professional activities.
- Serve on college and university committees and engage in university and community service including development of outreach activities.
- Participate in college and university programs to recruit and retain students.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum):
· A master’s degree in physics, or related fieldwith college teaching experience. Demonstrated ability to develop innovative teaching strategies, and experience working with diverse groups.
· Preferred Two (2) years of experience teaching at the college level.
· Experience with education technology, such as learning management software (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) is preferred.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle files, computers, and phones; reach with hands and arms; stoop, and kneel. Frequent and regular repetitive movements required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
