Full Job Description

Summer Volunteer Paralegal Internships – Eviction Defense

Eviction Defense Network (EDN) is seeking full- or part-time volunteer paralegal interns for Summer 2026 to assist with tenant unlawful detainer (eviction) defense work.

This is an excellent opportunity for paralegal students interested in litigation, public interest law, housing justice, and direct client services. Interns will work closely with attorneys and legal staff in a fast-paced legal services environment serving low-income tenants facing eviction.

Interns will receive hands-on training and practical experience in:

Conducting client intake interviews
Preparing Answers to unlawful detainer complaints
Conducting legal research using LexisNexis
Preparing and filing legal documents
Drafting case notes and summaries for attorney review
Assisting with responses to discovery requests
Learning court procedures and litigation workflow

Students will gain exposure to:

California unlawful detainer practice
Client-centered advocacy
Legal case management systems
Litigation support and legal drafting
Professional communication with clients, courts, and counsel

Ideal candidates are:

Current paralegal students or recent graduates
Detail-oriented and organized
Comfortable communicating with clients
Interested in litigation and/or public interest law
Able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
