This Payroll Manager opportunity is a senior-level leader responsible for the strategic oversight, governance, and continuous improvement of the company's multi-state payroll operations. This role goes beyond transactional payroll processing and serves as the subject matter expert on wage and hour compliance, payroll tax strategy, internal controls, audit readiness, and payroll systems optimization. The Payroll Manager will lead a team of three and partner cross-functionally with Finance, HR, Legal, and IT to ensure payroll operations support business growth, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

How You'll Make an Impact:

Lead and develop a high-performing payroll team while establishing best practices, KPIs, and service standards
Serve as the company's subject matter expert on multi-state payroll, with a strong emphasis on California wage and hour compliance
Drive payroll strategy, systems optimization, automation, and process improvements
Partner with Finance, HR, Legal, IT, and executive leadership to support business growth and operational excellence
Oversee payroll tax compliance, audits, internal controls, reconciliations, and regulatory reporting
Lead payroll system enhancements, integrations, and future implementations within ADP and related platforms
Deliver payroll analytics and reporting that support financial planning and executive decision-making
Ensure an exceptional employee experience through accurate payroll processing and responsive service

What It Takes to Succeed:

5+ years of progressive payroll leadership experience
Experience managing payroll teams and developing high-performing staff
Extensive multi-state payroll experience with deep knowledge of California wage and hour laws
Advanced experience with ADP Workforce Manager or similar enterprise payroll platforms
Strong knowledge of payroll taxes, garnishments, benefits, labor law, and payroll compliance
Experience partnering with Finance on reconciliations, general ledger activity, and payroll reporting
Advanced Excel and reporting skills
CPP certification is highly preferred
Experience supporting construction, infrastructure, telecommunications, staffing, or other multi-state/project-based organizations is highly desirable
