Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council, Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America)

Position: Philanthropy Executive

Reports to: Director of Philanthropy / Scout Executive

Salary Range: $100,000 - $125,000

Office Location: San Jose, CA

Statement of Outlook:

For over 115 years, the mission of Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) has been to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law through the following core principles: strengthen family relationships; foster self-esteem through personal achievement; teach healthy living skills; and develop a sense of personal and community responsibility.

Job Summary:

The Philanthropy Executive at Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council (SVMBC) will play a critical role in fundraising and relationship management within the organization, focusing on securing financial support and fostering donor engagement.

The primary responsibility of the Philanthropy Executive is to secure financial contributions from individuals, corporations, foundations, special events, and new initiatives. This involves identifying potential donors and cultivating relationships to encourage donations and/or participation. Must have experience and demonstrable success in all facets listed herein.

The Philanthropy Executive will:

Build and maintain strong relationships with donors.
Engage in face-to-face meetings and communications to understand donor interests and align them with the organization mission.
Work as part of a team, collaborating with other departments to enhance outreach and impact.
Will be highly involved in developing and implementing major gift programs, ensuring that donor contributions are effectively utilized to meet organizational objectives.
Serve as liaison (staff advisor) to Endowment Committee.
Track and report on donor movement, new, increased and lapsed donors;
Ensure donor records are kept up to date, including contact information, research and guest notes, event records and donor plan management;
Conduct regular research and target prospects;
Research and identify trusts and foundations whose criteria aligns with SVMBC programs and initiatives.
Meet with foundations, establish foundation relationships, and submit grant requests
Plan, organize, and execute select special events in all facets, or provide critical support in key aspects of special event support.
Ensure special events are unique, memorable and exciting for attendees.
Help to create new special events that put a positive spin on Scouting while providing experiences that are not common
Work with volunteers to assist with planning and executing events
Meet with prospective donors and supporters and network to new prospective supporters to increase funding base.
Must demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
Be the front line for donor customer service;
Manage relationships with a portfolio of mid-level donors;
Work with the philanthropy and education teams to manage relationships with current and potential trusts and foundations, ensure they receive program updates and respond to ad hoc requests;
Attend and host donors at events and stewardship initiatives;
Track donor development and results of fundraising events.
Identify and cultivate leads and prospects;
Build and manage relationships with key stakeholders;
Promote the importance of philanthropy within the organization and the role of staff in providing excellent experiences for donors and prospects; and

Strategic Thinking: A strategic mindset is necessary to align fundraising efforts with organizational goals.
Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends as well as travel on a limited basis

Requirements:

Must be willing to accept and meet the Scouting America’s leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (preferred).
Ability to work varied hours when necessary.
Ability to travel for training at least once a year for one to two weeks.
A Scouting background is helpful, but not required.

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $125,000, based on background and skillset, with mileage and phone reimbursement.

Professional Scouting offers benefits to include major medical, prescription coverage, dental, vision, life-insurance, long-term disability, accidental death, a defined benefit retirement plan, plus compensation for authorized and approved business-related expenses to include phone and mileage reimbursement.

We also offer a generous vacation policy and ten holiday observances.
