Full Job Description

We're growing our network of community-based doulas dedicated to improving maternal health outcomes for members across.

As a 1099 independent contractor Doula with our program, you'll provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed labor support and education to birthing individuals — many from historically underserved communities — throughout pregnancy, labor/delivery, and postpartum.

This is more than a job: it's an opportunity to be part of a growing statewide network committed to health equity, community healing, and reproductive justice, with pathways into managed care partnerships and expanding programs that reach justice-impacted communities.

This is a 1099 independent contractor position. You will set your own schedule and availability, work as a self-employed professional, and be responsible for your own taxes, insurance, and business expenses. This is not a W-2 employee role, and no employee benefits (health insurance, PTO, etc.) are provided by the organization.

What You'll Do

Provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to clients before, during, and after childbirth
Attend prenatal visits, labor/delivery, and postpartum check-ins as assigned
Educate clients on childbirth options, breastfeeding, newborn care, and self-advocacy within the healthcare system
Support clients in developing and communicating their birth preferences to medical providers
Complete required documentation and visit logs in compliance with Medi-Cal/Medicaid doula billing/reimbursement standards
Maintain required clinical hours and participate in ongoing professional development
Collaborate with our care coordination team and referral network to ensure timely client matching
Manage your own schedule, travel, and client bookings as an independent contractor

Who We're Looking For

Passionate about maternal health, birth equity, and community care
Comfortable working as a self-employed contractor with flexible/on-call availability (labor support requires availability outside standard business hours)
Strong communication skills and cultural humility working with diverse populations
Reliable transportation within your service area
Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply
Prior doula experience is a plus but not required — full training is provided
Comfortable managing own scheduling, invoicing (if applicable), and independent business responsibilities
