Full Job Description

Position Overview

The Salon Assistant at Bal-Lance Salon is a paid apprenticeship role designed to develop newly licensed cosmetologists into confident, professional Artists.

This position supports senior stylists, upholds luxury service standards, and participates in structured education with the goal of advancing into an Artist role upon demonstrated readiness.

This is a growth-based position, not a long-term assistant role.

Note: This posting is for the Salon Assistant apprenticeship track. Artist positions are filled internally upon completion of the program and approval by our Creative Director/Master Stylist.

Requirements
- Must hold a current, valid California Cosmetology License
- Available to work Wednesday–Sunday
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motion tasks; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs

Core Responsibilities
- Assist stylists with color applications, shampooing, blow-drying, and service preparation
- Maintain salon cleanliness and organization to California State Board standards
- Set up and break down stations before and after services
- Support guest experience from arrival to checkout
- Participate in weekly paid education and training
- Complete internal Cutting & Styling and Color modules
- Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and reliability

Growth & Advancement

Assistants participate in structured education rotations:
- Cutting & Styling module
- Color module

Completion of both modules and demonstration of proficiency are required before being considered for promotion to Artist.

Most assistants advance within approximately 6–8 months based on performance, consistency, and leadership evaluation.

Promotion includes increased hourly pay, tip eligibility, retail commission, and bonus opportunities.

Compensation

All required training is paid. Advancement compensation increases upon promotion to Artist.
