About the Opportunity
Are you an accounting professional with a related degree, 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience including at least 4 years managing employees, benefit management, and processing high volume payroll? Would you benefit from working in a community-based organization dedicated to helping improve the lives of others? Our established, respected, mission-driven, family-owned service organization is retiring our second CFO in 22 years, and we are looking for the next member of our growing team of professionals.
We serve families through compassionate, high-quality programs and services, and we are seeking a hands-on, strategic Chief Financial Officer who can strengthen financial operations, support long-term planning, and help ensure our organization remains financially healthy, compliant, and prepared for continued growth.
Position Summary
The CFO will serve as a key member of the leadership team, overseeing accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, compliance, internal controls, cash management, and financial strategy. This role partners closely with ownership and senior leadership to provide clear financial insight, guide decision-making, and align resources with the organization’s mission of serving families. Success in this role requires a leader who enjoys balancing strategic financial leadership with hands-on operational involvement across accounting, payroll, benefits compliance and organizational support
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting and finance functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and audit preparation.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, dashboards, and management reports for ownership, board members and senior leadership.
- Develop annual budgets and multi-year forecasts in partnership with leadership and program teams.
- Monitor performance against budget, identify variances, and recommend practical actions to improve financial outcomes.
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, insurance, reserves, and financial controls.
- Manage benefit eligibility and enrollments with TPAs and Accounting team members.
- Ensure compliance with applicable financial, tax, regulatory, funding, and reporting requirements.
- Work closely with tax preparers and ensure company tax filings are accurate and submitted timely.
- Strengthen internal policies, procedures, systems, and controls to support responsible stewardship and operational efficiency.
- Support strategic planning, growth initiatives, capital planning, and major organizational decisions through financial analysis and scenario planning.
- Lead, mentor, and develop Accounting team members while fostering a collaborative, service-oriented culture.
- Communicate financial information clearly to non-financial leaders so they can make informed decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field required; CPA, MBA, or advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting or financial leadership experience.
- Experience supervising accounting or finance staff and building strong team practices.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and audit processes.
- Experience in a service-based, healthcare, nonprofit, family services, human services, or mission-driven organization preferred.
- Experience managing employee benefits and eligibility determinations with a TPA including 401(k) retirement and medical benefits covered by ERISA.
- Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on financial management.
- High integrity, sound judgment, strong analytical skills, and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial information in clear, practical terms.
- Comfort working in an established organization with a collaborative, relationship-centered culture.
- High level of proficiency in using software including QuickBooks and MS Excel, online payroll software, and integrating systems to maximize accuracy and efficiencies.

Schedule and Work Environment
This is a full-time exempt leadership position in the organization’s office in Camarillo which is open weekdays 8:30am-5:30pm. Work outside of these hours and remote work may be required occasionally. The CFO will work closely with ownership, senior leadership, and department leaders in a professional, community-based environment.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
