About Us
Calcasieu Mechanical Contractors (CMC) is a leader in HVAC, piping, and mechanical systems, serving commercial, healthcare, municipal, institutional, and industrial clients throughout Louisiana and Southeast Texas. Family owned and represented by three generations, CMC has nearly tripled in size since 2008, the product of department leaders who are the best at their disciplines and a workforce that gets the job done right the first time. With offices in Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and Beaumont, our work range runs from Beaumont, TX to New Orleans, LA and from the Leesville area to Cameron, LA. CMC strives to be the best HVAC and mechanical contractor, not the biggest, for both our employees and our customers.
Position Summary
CMC is hiring Pipefitters and Pipe Welders for our Lake Charles construction crews. The work is heavy commercial and institutional mechanical piping - chilled water, hot water, steam, and direct expansion systems serving colleges, schools, hospitals, and governmental buildings. You will lay out and fabricate pipe assemblies, hang and support the pipe, weld it out, and hydrotest it. Many of our best people do both sides of this job. If you fit and weld, tell us; if you are strongest on one side, tell us that too and we will put you where you do your best work.
Pipefitting - Responsibilities
Read, study, and interpret job specifications, plans, blueprints, and piping isometrics, including submittals of equipment to be installed within the HVAC system
Organize the list of material required to install the job
Inspect the work site daily to identify obstructions and safety issues, and control those issues
Cut, grind, thread, clean, and fabricate pipe assemblies as required for each project
Fabricate and install different types of pipe and pipe fittings (carbon steel, copper, ACR copper, PVC, fiberglass, and others)
Install pipe and secure it to the structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers
Pipe in chillers, boilers, air handlers, VAV boxes, and fan coil units
Perform hydrostatic testing of piping systems for leaks; a basic hydrostatic test of 200 PSI is common, and DX pressure tests of 400-600 PSI are common
Coordinate with other crafts on the project to eliminate obstructions and keep the work moving
Pipe Welding - Responsibilities
Weld out pipe joints to project specifications and applicable codes
Weld carbon steel and stainless steel pipe; TIG, stick, and MIG processes depending on the project
Prepare joints, including fit-up, beveling, cleaning, and purging as required
Support weld quality and material traceability requirements and coordinate with Quality Control personnel
Take and pass weld tests as required by the project
