Full Job Description

Human Resources Manager
Location: North Hollywood, CA
Reports To: CEO
Compensation Range: 80K-90K DOE
FLSA: Exempt

From estimating and engineering through fabrication and installation, we pride ourselves on craftsmanship, accountability, innovation, and delivering exceptional finished products to our clients.

Our mid-size team combines modern manufacturing technology with old-school craftsmanship to create custom solutions that bring architectural visions to life. As we continue to grow, we are investing in the HR infrastructure to match the quality and professionalism of our work.

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced, HR Manager to step in as our sole HR practitioner and build on the HR foundation already in place. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for a compliance-oriented professional who thrives in a small company environment and can manage the full employee lifecycle independently.

You will be the go-to resource for employees and leadership alike: advising, implementing, and driving HR strategy while maintaining California labor law compliance and a people-first culture. If you're someone who brings both heart and rigor to HR, this role was built for you.

What You'll Be Doing

Employee Relations & Culture

Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and workplace matters.
Advise management on disciplinary actions, performance management, and conflict resolution.
Conduct investigations into employee complaints, policy violations, and sensitive workplace issues.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable workplace culture aligned with company values.

HR Compliance & Policy

Ensure company-wide compliance with California labor laws, FLSA, FMLA, CFRA, FEHA, OSHA, and related federal and state regulations.
Maintain, update, and implement the employee handbook, HR policies, and standard operating procedures.
Monitor legislative updates and proactively adjust policies to maintain compliance.
Serve as the internal subject matter expert on California-specific employment law requirements.
Support pre-litigation matters and coordinate with outside employment counsel as needed.

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

Manage full-cycle recruiting across all departments: job postings, sourcing, screening, interviewing, and offer letters.
Build a talent pipeline for field, fabrication, estimating, project management, and administrative roles.
Design and facilitate new hire onboarding to ensure smooth integration and compliance.
Maintain accurate and compliant personnel files and I-9 documentation.

Payroll & Benefits Administration

Coordinate payroll processing in partnership with the PEO (Samuel Hale) and payroll provider to ensure accurate and timely payroll each cycle.
Administer employee benefits programs including health, dental, vision, and supplemental offerings in coordination with the company's insurance broker.
Serve as the employee-facing point of contact for benefits questions, open enrollment, and qualifying life events.
Maintain benefit records and support annual renewal process.

Leave of Absence Management

Administer and track all leaves of absence including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, FEHA accommodations, and California-mandated leaves.
Provide required notices, coordinate with employees and managers, and ensure return-to-work compliance.
Maintain accurate leave records and communicate with payroll to coordinate paid/unpaid leave impact.

HR Operations & Collaboration

Partner with the Operations Manager and executive leadership on workforce planning, organizational needs, and HR strategy.
Maintain HRIS and employee data integrity across all platforms.
Produce HR reports and metrics to support business decisions.
Participate in leadership and company meetings to represent the HR function.

The duties listed above describe the general nature and level of work performed in this role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned to support business operations and organizational growth.

What You'll Bring

5+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 2 years as a standalone or lead HR practitioner.
Deep, working knowledge of California labor law: wage and hour compliance, CFRA/FMLA, FEHA, Cal/OSHA, and related regulations.
Demonstrated experience managing the full HR function in a small-to-mid-sized company (30–200 employees preferred).
Hands-on experience with payroll coordination and benefits administration.
Experience with PEO environments a strong plus
Proven ability to write, implement, and enforce HR policies and employee handbooks.
Experience managing leave of absence programs with full compliance documentation.
Strong investigation, conflict resolution, and employee relations skills.
Ability to build trust with both leadership and frontline employees.
Proficient in HRIS platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, and HR documentation tools.
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

Preferred But Not Required

PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.
Experience in construction, manufacturing, or skilled trades environments.
Bilingual English/Spanish — strongly preferred given our team makeup.
Experience supporting HR matters and working with outside employment counsel.

Work Environment

Primary work location: North Hollywood, CA office (on-site).

Occasional visits to active job sites, fabrication shop, or client locations as needed.

Fast-paced, small-company environment requiring independent judgment and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Regular interaction with shop personnel, field crews, project managers, estimating team, and executive leadership.

Standard office conditions with occasional exposure to a production/shop environment.
