Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Director of Human Resources serves as the organization's lead human resources professional, providing strategic and operational HR leadership across Health WorkForce New York. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws, developing and implementing HR policies, managing employee relations, overseeing talent acquisition and onboarding, administering benefits and compensation, leading performance management initiatives, and serving as a trusted advisor to leadership.

This position reports directly to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer and partners closely with executive leadership to foster a positive workplace culture while supporting organizational growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Human Resources Leadership

Serve as the organization's primary Human Resources professional.
Provide guidance to leadership regarding employee relations, policy interpretation, and employment law.
Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment regulations.
Maintain confidential personnel records.

Employee Relations

Investigate employee complaints and workplace concerns.
Conduct workplace investigations.
Manage disciplinary processes, corrective actions, and terminations.
Provide coaching to supervisors regarding performance management.
Facilitate conflict resolution.

Recruitment & Talent Acquisition

Lead full-cycle recruitment.
Develop job descriptions.
Coordinate interviews and selection processes.
Conduct reference and background checks.
Manage onboarding and orientation.
Develop employee retention initiatives.

Performance Management

Develop performance evaluation processes.
Assist supervisors with employee coaching.
Manage performance improvement plans.
Track employee goals and professional development.

HRIS Administration

Serve as administrator for the organization's HRIS (Rippling experience strongly preferred).
Maintain employee records.
Generate HR reports.
Ensure data accuracy.
Manage electronic personnel files.

Training & Development

Develop supervisor training.
Coordinate employee training.
Conduct HR compliance training.
Support leadership development.

Organizational Development

Improve HR processes.
Develop employee engagement initiatives.
Assist with succession planning.
Recommend organizational improvements.
Support strategic growth initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or related field.
SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification (required).
Minimum five (5) years progressive Human Resources experience.
Experience managing employee relations and investigations.
Experience administering benefits and leave programs.
Thorough knowledge of employment law.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Preferred

Master's degree.
Experience in nonprofit organizations.
Multi-state HR experience.
Experience with federally funded organizations or grant-funded programs.
Experience with Rippling HRIS.
Experience supporting remote employees.
Experience developing HR policies.
Experience with strategic workforce planning.

Hybrid schedule may be available based upon organizational needs.
Occasional evening meetings.
Potential travel between multiple office locations (Canton, Syracuse, Brooklyn and occasionally Albany).
Fast-paced, collaborative environment supporting several nonprofit organizations.

Preferred Certifications

SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP (Required)
PHR or SPHR (preferred in addition to SHRM certification)

Pay: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
