Salary: $42,100 to $72,700

Salary Range: $42,100 – $55,000
Extension Educator 2
Requires a master’s Degree
Salary Range: $47,700 – $62,300
Extension Educator 3
Requires a master’s Degree and 11+ years of direct or related work experience
Salary Range: $55,700 – $72,700

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is located in Stark County, Massillon, Ohio.
The Ohio State University Extension seeks an Educator to work collaboratively with county, area and state teams of OSUE professionals and with local agency leaders and volunteers. The Educator will be responsible for a broad range of basic to complex duties that could include but are not limited to: Providing guidance and/or leadership for 4-H Youth Development programming targeted to local and area needs. Utilize appropriate methods, both formal and informal, of community assessment to identify educational needs and opportunities of local community. Design, implement and teach educational programming, based on these needs, to groups and individuals comprised of adults, adult volunteers and youth. May also convene and facilitate community coalitions focused on those needs. The Educator may be required to replicate and adhere to existing programs that meet the needs of the local community. The Educator will develop promotional material, work with and/or lead committees and volunteers, and establish and maintain partnerships within the community that support the achievement of the goals of the 4-H Youth Development Program. The Educator evaluates educational programs and dissemination methods, as well as utilizes existing evaluation instruments to evaluate the teaching effectiveness, program quality and results of local programs. Participate in discussions with county representatives concerning program funding and may be responsible for the management of the program and/or county budget. The Educator will be responsible for securing external funds to support local programming and office operations. Participate as a member of county, multi-county, and/or state Extension teams to further the overall mission, vision and values of both Ohio State University Extension and 4-H Youth Development.
- Design, implementation and teaching of community-based programs that respond to local needs in the area of youth development. Implements current and designs new learning resources for 4-H members, 4-H volunteers, the school enrichment program in local schools and for partnership organizations in the county. Provide overall leadership for 4-H Youth Development within the county.
- Participates in community collaborations focused on local needs and issues relating to youth development. Establishes and maintains partnerships within the community that support achievement of program goals. Leads and supports committees and volunteers that work to support the 4-H program and related exhibitions. Communicates with clientele, peers and support teams.
- Conducts community assessment with county and state staff to identify educational needs and opportunities for the local community. Provides educational programs based on identified local needs. Participates in community functions to promote programs and provide public relations to county. Uses news media, develops promotion materials.
- Evaluates education programs and dissemination methods. Utilize existing evaluation instruments to evaluate teaching effectiveness, program quality, and results.
- Engages in professional development in service and activities.
- Actively participates in discussions with county representatives and advisory committees concerning program funding. In coordination with office staff and may be responsible for the management of budgets within the program area and within the county office.
QUALIFICATIONS: An earned bachelor’s or master’s degree at the time of hire is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in education, youth development or other educationally related area (Examples are Family Relations and Human Development, Communications, Recreation, Sociology, Psychology, and Education – including Agriculture, Extension, Elementary, Secondary, Family and Consumer Sciences and Physical Education).
Required Experience: Relevant experience utilizing a variety of teaching methods to deliver program content to diverse groups of learners. Knowledge and/or the ability to learn concepts, processes, ideas, and methods relating to 4-H and/or youth development in community settings. Experience or training in assessing, designing, developing and teaching educational programs to diverse audiences. Experience in building and maintain relationships with various group of individuals, including peers, support staff, volunteers, and local committees, in a effort to achieve common programing goals. Experience leading programs including the leadership of support staff and volunteers. Experience organizing, implementing and evaluating programs.
Desired Experience: Volunteer administration experience as well as program development. Prior experience with budget management, as well as work with grants and contracts.
The successful candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills and experience in working with diverse clientele and organizations. Demonstrated success in working as part of a team and initiating collaborative partnerships is sought.
