Position Summary

The PT Aide 2 supports the therapy team by assisting with the safe mobilization of medically complex patients, preparing treatment areas and equipment, and performing delegated non-skilled tasks under the direct supervision of licensed therapy staff. The aide also provides clerical and administrative support, assists with department projects and operational initiatives, and helps maintain an organized, efficient, and safe patient care environment.

Department Summary

The Hospital Therapy Department provides high-quality, patient-centered rehabilitation services to hospitalized individuals recovering from orthopedic, neurological, musculoskeletal, and various medical conditions. Our licensed physical therapist assistants deliver evidence-based care focused on restoring function, improving mobility, and enhancing quality of life. The department operates within the hospital’s broader continuum of care and collaborates closely with physicians, nursing staff, and other allied health professionals to ensure seamless, coordinated treatment. Services are delivered in compliance with all applicable regulatory standards and organizational policies. Staff are expected to uphold the mission, vision, and values of the organization while maintaining a strong commitment to clinical excellence, patient safety, and continuous professional development.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Courses in anatomy, physiology and/or physics, preferred.

Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.

Department Qualifications

Assist with the safe mobilization, transfer, positioning, and ambulation of medically complex patients under the direct supervision of a licensed therapy staff, following established safety procedures.

Demonstrate the ability to safely assist patients with multiple medical lines, tubes, drains, and monitoring equipment while maintaining patient safety and comfort.

Prepare, clean, inspect, and maintain patient treatment areas and therapy equipment in accordance with hospital infection prevention and safety standards.

Communicate effectively with therapists, therapist assistants, nursing staff, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to support efficient patient care and department workflow.

Perform clerical and administrative duties accurately, including scheduling support, supply and equipment management, data entry, and other department operations.

Assist department leadership with operational, quality improvement, and organizational projects as assigned.

Demonstrate excellent customer service and interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Maintain flexibility and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced acute care environment while supporting patient throughput and efficient therapy operations.

Safely assists with patients who have multiple medical lines, tubes, drains, and monitoring equipment during mobility activities as directed by the therapist.

Cleans, disinfects, inspects, and maintains therapy equipment and treatment areas in accordance with hospital infection prevention and safety standards.

Assists with patient transportation and other non-clinical tasks that support efficient patient care and department workflow.

Performs clerical and administrative duties, including answering phones, copying, filing, stocking supplies, scheduling support, and maintaining department records.

Assists with inventory management, supply ordering, and equipment tracking to ensure the department remains operational.

Reports equipment malfunctions or safety concerns promptly and coordinates repairs with appropriate departments while ensuring unsafe equipment is removed from service.

Assists department leadership with operational initiatives, quality improvement activities, data collection, and other assigned departmental projects.

Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, families, therapists, nursing staff, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Demonstrates flexibility in responding to changing patient care priorities, staffing needs, and daily workflow in a fast-paced acute care environment.

Promotes a safe, clean, and organized therapy environment by following safe patient handling practices, infection prevention guidelines, and departmental policies.

Performs other duties as assigned to support the rehabilitation department and organization.

Working Conditions

Hours of operation with shifts as assigned including weekends, holidays, afternoons, evenings, and occasional overtime.

Lunch and break periods must be coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate staffing during facility hours of operation.

May be required to travel in inclement weather.

Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.

Subject to emergency and other crisis situations.

Requires the ability to communicate effectively through various methods—including verbal, written, and electronic platforms—during both routine operations and unexpected events, ensuring timely coordination and response across the department
