Help Bring Meaningful Programming to Life
Horizons Enrichment Center is seeking a dependable, energetic, and organized Direct Support Program Facilitator to help create engaging, meaningful days for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
This position is a unique combination of program facilitation and direct participant support. The Direct Support Program Facilitator works from curriculum, lesson plans, activities, and program schedules developed by the Curriculum Coordinator and helps bring those plans to life through hands-on lessons, life-skills activities, recreation, cooking activities, community outings, and other meaningful experiences.
We are looking for someone who is confident engaging and facilitating groups, highly organized, dependable, takes initiative, and communicates well in writing. Strong documentation skills and attention to detail are essential for this position.
This is also a hands-on direct support position. The employee must be comfortable assisting participants with personal care, toileting, feeding, mobility, transportation, and other daily support needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate planned lessons, life-skills programming, crafts, recreational and social activities, cooking activities, and other structured programming.
- Engage participants in meaningful activities and adapt the delivery of planned programming based on individual abilities, engagement, and support needs.
- Work with participants individually and in groups to support established goals, independence, and skill development.
- Prepare and organize materials, supplies, instructional resources, and activity spaces needed to carry out scheduled programming.
- Take the lead on routine meal and snack setup, including portioning and plating prepared meals, pouring drinks, preparing simple snacks, organizing supplies, and coordinating setup and cleanup. Daily meals are provided by an outside meal provider.
- Attend community outings as assigned and serve as a program facilitator, helping carry out planned activities while supporting participant engagement and meaningful community participation.
- Provide hands-on assistance with toileting, hygiene, feeding, mobility, transfers, and other personal-care needs.
- Maintain active participant supervision while promoting safety, dignity, choice, and independence.
- Complete clear, detailed, accurate, and timely participant documentation, including case notes, progress notes, and other required program records.
- Document participant activities, progress, supports provided, and relevant observations in a professional and objective manner.
- Transport participants in center vehicles as assigned and serve as a backup/substitute driver.
- Communicate participant observations, programming needs, and concerns to the appropriate member of leadership.
- Work collaboratively with the Curriculum Coordinator, Assistant Director, DSPs, and other team members.
This position facilitates programming but does not supervise DSPs or have employee-management authority.
Required Qualifications
- Some college coursework from an accredited college or university.
- At least one year of relevant work experience in education, special education, direct support, healthcare, childcare, human services, or a related setting.
- Strong written communication and documentation skills, including the ability to clearly, accurately, objectively, and professionally document participant activities, progress, supports provided, and relevant observations.
- Ability to confidently engage participants and facilitate structured activities in individual and group settings.
- Strong organizational skills, initiative, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Ability and willingness to provide hands-on participant support, including toileting, feeding, mobility assistance, and other personal-care needs.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet Horizons Enrichment Center's driving and insurance requirements.
- Missouri residents must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a Missouri Class E driver's license if not already held.
Strongly Preferred
- Experience working with adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD).
- Experience leading or facilitating groups, such as educational activities, life-skills activities, recreational programming, classes, or other structured group activities.
- Current Level 1 Medication Aide (L1MA) or CNA certification.
- Current Missouri Class E driver's license.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the program day.
- Ability to assist participants with personal care, mobility, transfers, and other hands-on support needs as required.
- Ability to participate in center-based and community activities and safely accompany participants on community outings.
- Ability to safely operate center vehicles when assigned and meet applicable driving requirements.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
This is a full-time weekday position with no regularly scheduled evenings or weekends.

Pre-Employment & Ongoing Requirements
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable pre-employment and regulatory requirements, which may include:
- Required background screening and registry checks.
- Employment eligibility verification.
- Required TB
- Completion and maintenance of required CPR/First Aid and other applicable training.
- Ability to meet Horizons Enrichment Center's driving and insurance requirements and obtain and maintain a Missouri Class E driver's license when applicable.
