Position Summary: The Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association (PMTA) is seeking an organized, relationship-oriented Safety & Education Coordinator to support the association's statewide safety and education initiatives. This position coordinates PMTA's training programs, educational events, instructor network, and Safety Management Council, while serving as a trusted resource for members seeking practical guidance on commercial motor carrier safety and regulatory compliance.
Working closely with PMTA leadership, volunteer members, and industry partners, the Coordinator will help identify member needs, support the continued development of PMTA’s safety programs, and foster engagement across the Association’s safety community.
The ideal candidate has working knowledge of the commercial trucking industry and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, strong organizational and communications skills, intellectual curiosity, and a collaborative, service-oriented approach to building relationships, coordinating programs, and advancing safety throughout Pennsylvania’s trucking industry. Essential Responsibilities
Safety Education & Training Coordination
· Coordinate all aspects of PMTA's safety, compliance, and professional development training programs, including instructors, facilities, virtual platforms, participant communications, registrations, training materials, certificates, evaluations, and recordkeeping.
· Serve as the primary liaison between PMTA, instructors, training partners, and course participants to ensure successful program delivery.
· Evaluate existing training offerings and recommend new educational opportunities, partnerships, and delivery methods that enhance member value.
· Work closely with the Director of Communications to promote training programs and educational events.
Safety Management Council
· Serve as staff liaison to PMTA's Safety Management Council by coordinating meetings, agendas, minutes, communications, and follow-up.
· Partner with volunteer leaders to establish committee priorities, develop educational programming, recruit speakers and volunteers, and support implementation of Council initiatives.
· Foster an active and engaged Safety Management Council by encouraging participation and strengthening member involvement.
Member Safety Support
· Serve as a trusted resource for members by responding to routine questions related to FMCSA regulations, driver qualification, hours of service, drug and alcohol requirements, and other common safety topics.
· Research regulatory questions, provide practical guidance using available resources, and recognize when issues require legal or technical interpretation by PMTA leadership or other subject matter experts.
· Develop and maintain safety resources, FAQs, and educational materials that support member compliance and understanding.
Safety Program Development & Member Engagement
· Work collaboratively with PMTA leadership, the Safety Management Council, and industry partners to strengthen and expand the Association's safety programs.
· Build relationships with member companies, safety professionals, instructors, enforcement agencies, educational partners, and prospective members to promote engagement and communicate the value of PMTA membership.
· Identify emerging industry trends, member needs, and opportunities for new educational programs while recommending improvements based on feedback and industry developments.
Member Communications & Safety Content
· Draft newsletters, articles, email alerts, website content, and other communications covering safety, compliance, and regulatory developments.
· Collaborate with the Director of Communications to develop safety-related content for PMTA publications, social media, and members-only resources.
· Monitor regulatory and industry developments and communicate timely, practical updates to members.
Event & Program Coordination
· Coordinate logistics for Safety Day, the Truck Driving Championships, webinars, training programs, and other Association events, including speaker communications, registration, presentation materials, evaluations, exhibitors, sponsors, and onsite event support.
· Work with internal staff, volunteers, and vendors to ensure safety-related events are organized, engaging, and successfully executed.
· Support onsite event management of other PMTA events as needed.
Industry Engagement
· Monitor changes to state and federal law and regulations affecting commercial motor vehicle safety and maintain current knowledge of industry trends and best practices through continuous learning and professional development opportunities.
· Build and maintain relationships with fleet safety professionals, trainers, enforcement agencies, educational partners, and other industry stakeholders.
· Represent PMTA at industry meetings, conferences, and educational events while supporting the Association's mission of advancing highway safety throughout Pennsylvania.
Administrative Responsibilities
· Maintain accurate training records, participant information, certificates, educational materials, and program documentation.
· Manage safety-related activities within PMTA's association management system, including event setup, communications, member records, and website updates.
· Track program participation, completion data, and engagement metrics while preparing reports and supporting documentation for Association initiatives, grants, and strategic planning.
Required Qualifications
· Experience working in the commercial trucking industry, preferably in fleet safety, compliance, operations, driver training, or another motor carrier-related role.
· Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Working knowledge of commercial motor vehicle operations and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs).
· Strong organizational, project coordination, and written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to research regulatory and technical topics, synthesize information, and communicate practical guidance clearly.
· Strong customer service skills with the ability to build relationships and work effectively with members, volunteers, and industry stakeholders.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common business software.
· Ability to travel throughout Pennsylvania and occasionally work evenings or weekends for meetings and events.
Preferred Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree.
· Experience coordinating training programs or educational events.
· Experience working with or serving on committees, advisory groups, volunteer organizations, or boards for trade associations or other membership organizations.
· Strong writing and editing experience, including developing newsletters, articles, blogs, or other professional communications.
· Knowledge of adult learning, workforce development, or professional education programs.
· Demonstrated initiative in developing programs, improving processes, or leading collaborative projects.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to travel throughout Pennsylvania for meetings, training programs, and conferences.
· Ability to lift and transport training materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
· Ability to stand for extended periods during training events and conferences.
This position is an onsite job in Camp Hill, PA, but travel around the state for events is required to support chapter and PMTA events.
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
