Full Job Description

HOURS:

35 hours per week - Monday through Friday, subject to variance according to program needs.
May include evening and weekend work. The need to work 40 hours in any given week may be necessary as workload dictates. Hours up to 40 will be compensated as straight-time pay.

Provide on-call back up service in staff rotation.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in education, public relations, social work or related field and/or combination of education and experience.

Ability to build positive relationships with diverse individuals, groups, and community partners. Ability to effectively communicate the needs of survivors and advocate on issues related to violence affecting individuals of all genders.

Valid PA driver’s license, use of personal vehicle and proof of insurance.

Availability to be on call and travel.

Ability to deal effectively with crisis situations, communicate clearly both orally and in writing, exercise professional judgment, make independent decisions and maintain client confidentiality.

Successful completion of 3-month probation period.

No Record of child abuse or criminal history.

INTRODUCTORY CONDITIONS:

Completion of 40-hour domestic violence training within 3 months of employment.

Firm commitment to the agency’s philosophy and goals.

Satisfactory or higher performance evaluation on all activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary function of this position is to coordinate the agency’s public education/outreach efforts. Duties include, but are not limited to:

1. Public Education Coordinator

a). Develop, coordinate, present, and evaluate domestic violence education/prevention programs, presentations and trainings for schools, community groups, and other organizations.

b). Develop prevention education/public education materials (brochures, fliers, etc.).

c). Establish and maintain professional working relationships with staff, volunteers, interns, school personnel, and community representatives.

d). Complete and analyze evaluations of presentations.

f). Coordinate agency representation at community events, fairs, etc.

g). Assist the medical community in the development of victim response programs, including medical protocols, documentation and implementation.

h). Serve on medical community multidisciplinary teams/task forces to establish internal and external networks and to coordinate and evaluate victim services.

2. Record Keeping

a). Maintain complete and accurate records of presentations and events on an on-going basis.

b). Submit adequate and accurate statistical data, including ETO and global each month for PCADV reporting purposes, plus any appropriate statistical data required by other grantees.

3. Outreach

a). Participate in agency fundraising/activities as assigned.

b). Participate in agency functions/activities as assigned.

c). Participate in community wide committees and task forces as assigned.

4. Counseling/Advocacy

a). Adhere to confidentiality standards set forth in DVSCP Policies and Procedures.

b). Provide individual, supportive, crisis counseling and advocacy services to victims of domestic violence, including working with victims to identify safety issues and developing safety plans.

c). Assist clients in obtaining civil and/or criminal relief.

d). Develop individualized service/goal plans with each client.

e). Identify and provide appropriate referrals.

f). Advocate for clients with other systems personnel as requested by client.

g). Make follow-up contacts with all clients as assigned.

h). Answer hotline.

i). Provide 1 week duration on call back up service in staff rotation.

5. Self Development

a). Participate in relevant trainings, conferences, seminars, and committee meetings with the approval/direction of the Executive Director.

b). Keep up to date with changes in policies and the direction of the agency.

c). Maintain ethical communication and behavior in all interactions, following the empowerment philosophy.

d). Maintain knowledge of all Commonwealth laws in regard to domestic violence, Protection from Abuse, stalking and harassment.

6. Additional Duties:
May assist with volunteer trainings.

Undertake projects and responsibilities assigned by the Executive Director.
