Full Job Description

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) to join our clinical research team as a Sub-Investigator (Sub-I) and/or clinical research provider.

This is an excellent opportunity for an FNP with strong clinical experience who is interested in expanding into clinical research, clinical trials, and investigational medicine. The ideal candidate will have strong patient assessment skills, sound clinical judgment, excellent documentation abilities, and a commitment to following research protocols and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards.

The Sub-Investigator will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), Clinical Research Coordinators, and other members of the research team to ensure the safe, ethical, and accurate conduct of clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as a Sub-Investigator on clinical research studies under the supervision and delegation of the Principal Investigator.
Conduct medical assessments, physical examinations, medical histories, and clinical evaluations according to study protocols.
Evaluate patient eligibility and assist with screening and enrollment of qualified study participants.
Perform and document study-related procedures and assessments within protocol requirements.
Review medical histories, laboratory results, vital signs, diagnostic findings, and other clinical data.
Assess and document adverse events (AEs), concomitant medications, and changes in participants' medical conditions.
Provide appropriate medical care and clinical oversight to research participants throughout the study.
Collaborate with the PI and research team regarding participant safety, protocol requirements, and medical decision-making.
Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the EHR and clinical trial systems.
Ensure all delegated research activities are performed in compliance with ICH-GCP, FDA regulations, study protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Participate in investigator meetings, protocol training, site initiation activities, monitoring visits, and other study-related meetings as required.
Communicate professionally with study participants, sponsors, CROs, monitors, and members of the research team.
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and applicable privacy regulations.
Support recruitment and retention efforts while maintaining ethical standards and protocol compliance.

Clinical Responsibilities

Depending on the candidate's experience and study requirements, responsibilities may include:

Comprehensive physical examinations and clinical assessments
Diagnosis and management of acute and chronic conditions
Medication management and review of concomitant medications
Venipuncture and other routine clinical procedures
Assessment of laboratory and diagnostic results
Patient education and counseling
Telehealth or follow-up assessments when permitted by the study protocol
Documentation of clinical findings and medical decision-making
Recognition and appropriate management or escalation of adverse events

Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in FNPs who have:

Strong clinical experience in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Urgent Care, Emergency Medicine, or related specialties
Experience evaluating and treating diverse adult patient populations
Excellent clinical assessment and medical decision-making skills
Strong attention to detail and accurate medical documentation
Interest in clinical research and investigational medicine
Ability to understand and follow detailed study protocols
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, investigators, coordinators, and research staff
Professionalism and a strong commitment to participant safety and ethical research conduct

Previous clinical research experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong clinical backgrounds who are interested in transitioning into clinical research are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications

Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) certification
Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the applicable state/jurisdiction
Current DEA registration, if applicable
Current CPR/BLS certification
Clinical experience in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Urgent Care, Emergency Medicine, or a related field
Previous clinical research, clinical trial, or investigator experience preferred
Knowledge of ICH-GCP, FDA regulations, and clinical research processes preferred
Experience with EHR/EMR systems such as Epic, eClinicalWorks, Athenahealth, Cerner, or similar platforms
Strong proficiency in medical terminology, clinical documentation, and patient assessment
